hello to all and entrelac help!

I haven't posted in quite a while, as my 5 year old has discovered how to use the mouse on our computer and has become completely addicted to the starfall.com website. lol. So I don't get much chance to use the computer anymore. :-)

I hope everyone is well. I am knitting gifts for Christmas like mad and have gotten into quite a tangle making an entrelac hat pattern from the Hip Knit Hats book. I made a size medium and when I finally got through the entrelac pattern (which was a nightmare of epic proportions and required tons of tinking), I knit the 7 rows of stocking stitch to create a rolled brim (it was knit top-down). Well, the blooming thing is a little snug for me and quite frankly, I think it's "skimpy", in terms of how it covers the head. It seems like it would fit a 7-10 year old fine, but this is for an adult! If I rip back the 7 rows of stocking stitch to get where I was when the entrelac pattern stitch was completed, do you think I can increase at this point to make the hat less snug, or would changing the type of brim, to say, K1,P1 rib, which is stretchier, do the trick? It's not horribly tight, it's just somewhat snug. Otherwise, I'll just finish it off and toss it in my charity donations box.

thanks. Hope this made sense!

LISA open the brim that is not fitting you go back to entrelack , you can enlafge and widen the hat , by making the NUMBER OD STITCHES Bigger in the Next round of squares , if you had 4 add a a stitch to each square and now you can have 5 etc,,,, mirjam

thanks, Mirjam. After I posted my original message, I sat and stared at the hat and then decided to rip back to the entrelac. I had noticed that there were gaps/holes in various places where the entrelac stopped and the stocking stitch began. The first thing I did was to just go around the hat and pick up stitches as needed to get rid of the holes. After I did that, I knit a row and started knitting 2 together every 5th stitch for 2 rows until I had the amount of stitches that the pattern had called for for a size "large" (60 sts). I then knit the brim as called for in the pattern, but this time I added about 3-5 extra rows (didn't count, just knitted until it looked right to me). I bound off, and voila! The hat fits, doesn't look skimpy and is ready to give to my friend as a gift as soon as I weave in the yarn ends. :-D

thanks for responding! Next time I attempt entrelac, I'll try your method, Mirjam. :-)
