Help with a Knitting Pattern

Hi all, I'm just switching over from doing scarves to doing sweaters, so please bear with me!

My pattern reads:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Shape Raglan: Bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Next Row: Shape as follows:

1st row (right side): k3, sl1, k1, psso, k to last 5, k2tog, k3 2nd row (wrong side): purl Repeat these 2 rows until 32 sts remain. Bind off.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So my question is this: do I just bind off 2 sts the first time I do those 2 rows, and then continue the pattern? I know this should be easy, but I want to make sure.

Exactly right. The 4 stitches you bind off make the ease under the arm. You could even think of it like this;

Row 1: Bind off 2 sts at beginning of row. Row 2: Bind off 2 sts at beginning of row

Row 3: (right side): k3, sl1, k1, psso, k to last 5, k2tog, k3 Row4: (wrong side): purl Repeat Row 3 & 4 until 32 sts remain. Bind off.

Yes. You BO on 2 rows, then the pattern continues `next row' which begins the 2 dec/shaping rows.

Correct. That is how I read it. Judy

I didn't realize you had a stitch pattern. If so, keep to the pattern. Is there a picture of the finished object, and does the pattern go all the way to the neck? Because the rows after that -

- have you doing knit/purl plain with no pattern.

I was assuming body of the item is knit in stockinette (knit one row, purl the next back and forth) and that "the pattern" you are referring to is the instruction for the decreases on either side (the slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over etc)

I'm sorry, I should have specified more clearly.

I have been doing a stockinette stich up to this point, and then it says bind off 2 on the next 2 rows, and then the decrease on either side.

So if I'm understanding you all correctly (and please forgive my confusion) when I bind off 2 for the 2 rows, I will continue with the knit/purl, and then I will start the decrease on either side.

Thanks > JCT wrote:

Maybe after you did this , go to somebody who will teach to knit all parts till that decrease of 2st ,,, than put 1 front , 1 sleeve, 1 back 2nd sleeve ona round cable and than knit the whole raglan in one , decreasing 8 stitches all around in one row ,,, it will save sewing up the raglan and look very neat. mirjam
