I think Red Heart yarn is softer

Hi all,

Just thought I'd put in 2¢ worth and comment that the new Red Heart yarn I bought for a project I have in mind is a different texture than the stuff I have in the stash that's anywhere from a couple to 10-15 years older.

People have commented that it's usually a rough acrylic, but I just noticed the newer yarn seems softer, and I don't think it's just the one new color, Light Fuchsia. I'm hoping it wears as well as the other RH I've used for years and years!

Hi Leah,

I have to agree with you that the Super Saver yarn is a lot softer then even a couple years ago. That's the brand I use for the afghans that I make and the last two have been so soft. I hope that Red Heart doesn't go back to however they were doing it before.

Katherine, I had a skein of their giant yarn sent to me from Michelle and it was a lot softer then what we had, but not it's equal.

Hugs,

Nora

Hi Leah, Yes, I have noticed the same thing, it is much softer. I've always used it but I'm making an afghan now and it will be much softer than my previous ones! I'm so glad they changed it. Debby (FL)

I picked some up after reading this and you are right. I had thought it pretty harsh before but the new skeins feel much nicer. I wanted to do a sweater for DGD#3 that could be treated like an old sweatshirt for outdoor play etc - and will try this. It is just going to be a topdown raglan pullover - nothing special. I am also doing a Winnie the Pooh sweater for her in Canadiana for play. However, I made her a dressy little bolero in cashmerino aran for dressier wear - but warned DD that it needed more careful treatment. (DGD#3 is a very active 4 year old).
