I think giving a mohair sweater for man is really stretching it. Why not knit a bunch of scarves and hats for charity. I listen to the "Sticks and Strings" podcast done by a Austraillian man who knits. He said men don't want mohair anything.
Why not get some of your fellow knitter together and a knit party. Have a little wine and cheese. Knit some and talk and laugh. You could have fun and not force your man to wear a fuzzy sweater/jumper.
Anyway just a thought.
