May a newcomer butt in?
I crocheted an afghan back in the early eighties with a fake mohair I believe was called "Kitten". I am getting psyched to do another one and wonder if this stuff is still available, or can anyone recommend something comparable.

There are plenty of fauxhair products on the market. If you have a Joann, a Michaels or a Hobby Lobby nearby take a stroll through the yarn section and you're sure to find something.
