Leftover Bulky Yarn Put To Use (from Gemini... NOT her son)

First off, thank you all for the welcome back messages posted. :o)

Secondly... no, my back isn't better yet... and I've been taking my medication and using a heating pad too. Now to top it off, it's moved up to my shoulder blade and my right wrist (I'm right-handed too, of course) is really hurting today... feels like a bone is out of place, but it's just the Fibromyalgia making it's way around to a few areas it hasn't bothered for a month or so. I'm wearing my wrist splint as I type. My back is always hurting, but that is partly to do with the Degenerative Disc Disease and the Degenerative Arthritis.. but the muscles throughout my back and my shoulder blade, and now this with the wrist is the Fibromyalgia. :o/ Ah well... just have to deal with it.

A couple of weeks ago my arms and hands were behaving, so I got out my yarn and needles and knitted two pairs of slippers for Matthew and one pair for me using leftover bulky yarn, so the slippers are multi-colored and pretty neat. Mind you, because my arms and hands do tend to get very tired and sore easier now, it took 1 1/2 weeks to make three pairs of slippers that would normally have taken me a couple of days. That often bothers me, but this time I took pride in the fact that I managed to do them all before this newest bout started up. :o) So Matthew got a pair of red slippers with a couple of black stripes on them (his favorite colors) along with a pair of blue slippers with red toes. My pair were definitely multi-colored... starting at the heel they are blue, pink, green & yellow.

Also during that time when my hands and arms weren't hurting I did a couple more rounds of an afghan that I'm working on for my aunt (my mom's sister) which I started a while back. Unfortunately with that the weight of it makes my arms and hands hurt, so I can only manage a couple of rows and then I have to put it away. It is coming along nicely though, so I should have it finished soon... if my wrist starts feeling better soon. Hopefully before summer, as I hate working with yarn in the heat.

Peace! Gemini

PS I noticed that my last message says my son's name in the "from" column. He doesn't even knit or crochet. LOL Guess it's because the email and newgroup are in his name... for now. ;o)

Gem, Leave it in Matthews name for a bit.... while you were off... a bunch of us received strange emails asking about you and IRC, etc.... Mirjam, Katherine and I for sure, plus a bunch of others.... then there was the really AACCKK jerk who came here and accused you of all sorts of strange things.... so... leaving Gemini 'off' for a bit is probably a good thing! What, did you think we wouldn't notice that you had re-appeared?

Good to hear that you are actually managing to knit a little - I know how important that is.

Where is Matthew working? I am sure that he must be.

FM sucks, doesn't it? Keith has it - as you may or may not remember - so we know what you are going through.

Take care, and keep posting when you can.

Hi Gemini,

It's really great seeing you again. I know what you mean about the bulky yarn and hurting. I had to give up knitting the bulky Mary Maxim sweaters as it bothered the hands so much. I now crochet using two strands of yarn and the "N" size hook with no problem at all.

Take care and hugs and prayers.

Okay, thank you. Would someone/anyone/all who received these messages about me please email me privately and let me know what they said and who they were from? You've got my curiosity up and I will go lala if I don't know what it was.

Peace! Gemini

Well, you know... out of sight, out of mind and all that. ;o)

Yes, it is important and nice to keep me occupied, otherwise I could get myself into a whole mess of trouble. *ahem* Who me?!?

Matthew has been working at StarTek for over a year now as an activations rep for T-Mobile (yes, it is an American mobile phone company, but they have a few places here in Ontario that handle calls for them). He's actually one of the few who have been there the longest. He enjoys the work, although sometimes he comes home frazzled by some of the calls he's received that particular day. They are apparently going to drop activations at the call centre where he works and switch them all over to customer-care.... a lot of them are already in training and the rest will go into training over the next few weeks.

Oh yes, it definitely does suck, BIG TIME! Although if there is a bright side to it ( just trying to keep a sense of humor about it), it is that it keeps you on your toes never knowing which part it will attack next. "Oh my feet this time around? Thank you, I'll just sit out the dance for a while!" ;o)

Will do! :o)

*smiles* Thank you Mirjam! I've missed you all so much, but I did read the messages when I could at the library.

Isn 't that odd that I didn't see the posting from the person saying bad things about me?! :o/ Ah well, I would have been frustrated not to be able to send off a response... through email, not on the newsgroup.

LOL Mirjam, I can't imagine knitting for the Yetty... besides, I'm sure he's warm enough in all that fur. :o)

Hi Nora! Thank you, it's great to be back. I don't mind using the bulky yarn as long as I'm working on something small like slippers, but the weight of anything big would be too much. Thinking of that... I just picked up a free pattern in the yarn section at WalMart last week, for a gorgeous looking poncho. It's nice and long (about mid-thigh) and looks like it's done in heavy yarn, I haven't read the instructions yet... but it *looks* not too difficult. Maybe if I take my time and do one or two rounds at a time I *might* be able to make it within a couple of years? ;o)

Sweetie, I would if I had kept it, but I just deleted it. I remember that some of us had a bit of a discussion at the time, but we agreed that the notes were from a nutter who didn't deserve to be acknowledged.

Gemini, I never saw these postings either, I think that some of these things come through specific servers. Leave it be, it is in the past, time to move on. We have not had the crazies for a while, we leave that box closed....LOL, we can do without these aimless nonsences.

Hope the weather is nice out your way, and spring is nearly there. How are or is it is your dog.

We *had* gorgeous weather last week. In fact last Tuesday I saw a lot of people wearing shorts and t-shirts (little too soon as far as I'm concerned, but the temperature really was hot that day).... however on the weekend we got hit with another snowstorm that lasted a couple of days and it was freezing again. All the poor daffodils that had been in full bloom in our garden were covered in ice and snow, and a lot of bud that had been starting on the trees were blown off by very strong winds. It was a bit nicer last night, and this morning for a little while, but it's been raining most of the day. Rain is fine... it is April afterall... but PLEASE no more snow!! Ah well, we're Canadians, right? We can take the cold. *she said while snuggling in her cozy sweater* ;o)

Hi Gemini, it's great to hear from you again, and good for Matthew, finding a job he enjoys. So sorry to her about the fibromyalgia, nasty old thing that is, but I think you have the right attitude "do it when you can, plan what you're going to do when you can't" Hope those wrists, hands and back are soon feeling better Love Christine

Thank you, Christine, it's great to be back!

My doctor has given me a perscription for a Shiatsu Chair Pad that I will submit to the case worker at Ontario Works (she said "You don't know what they'll approve until you pass in the perscription and they make a decision on it.") to see if they will cover the cost... they are about $170. I tried one just before Christmas while in the stores with my son and his best friend and my back was killing me. Oh they are fabulous!!! It massages your entire back starting at the base of your spine and working it's way all the way up to your shoulders, just as if you were having a deep tissue massage. I sat there for less than five minutes and when I stood up to walk again, my back felt SO much better.

It would be great if Ontario Works does cover it, but I'm not holding my breath as there are some medications they won't cover (as my doctor put it "They want you to try all the cheaper stuff first before they'll even think about the better stuff that doctors would prefer you to have!") so chances are they won't cover this. But then, you don't know until you try... and they did pay for my wrist splints. If they don't cover the chair pad, we'll just have to save up to buy it.

Of course if Ontario Disability reverses their decision and approves me for Disability (my appeal date is set for July 26th with Legal Assistance by my side.. who've had a high success rate of getting them to reverse their decision on Fibromyalgia cases), I'll be getting a nice amount in back pay so I can buy the chair pad then... along with some much needed appliances that are in dire need of replacement.

Definitely need a new stove (two of the elements have decided to die completely... even tried replacing them and the fuses to no avail), a new refrigerator (this one is still working, but it has recently been leaking water all over the floor... the temperature never stays the same so sometimes liquids and vegetables in the fridge part freeze while ice-cream in the freezer part will be soft), and a new washer & drier would be a great help for me. For now I either have to lug hot water to the washer (Matthew gets really ticked (that's polite) with me when he comes home to find that I've done that because of my back) because for some reason the hot water does not go into the machine (that actually stopped at the other house, but I was hoping that it was just the pipes there), or I have to take the laundry to the laundromat which isn't cheap. When the weather is nice I hang the clothes out on the line, taking small amounts at a time in the basket so it isn't too heavy... but when it rains I end up having to dry them in the dryers at the laundromat because our drier can't be fixed apparently. :o/ I'd also like to buy a small deep freezer, I really miss the old deep freezer that we had for years at the old house.... it was too humongous for the three guys to move and we had to leave it behind for the new owners to throw out... and the freezer part of the refrigerator just doesn't have enough room. A few weeks ago when Matthew first got his loan that paid off all the bills and ordered the computer, I bought a lot of meat and put it in the freezer part of the fridge. Along with some frozen vegetables, cheese (that I didn't know you could freeze by the way) and strawberries that were already in there it is pretty full. At least we won't run short of food for a while. :o)

Anyway, enough of my rambling... can you tell that I missed being able to gab? LOL

Peace! Gemini

There is something on the back of the washing machine called a "control valve" or a "check valve" that regulates the water into the machine. I'm sure it would be less expensive to have that replaced than buy a new machine at present, and at least it would stop you from lugging hot water for the wash. Just something to check out. In addition to my previous post, I was just informed that there may be a two other items to check out. There may be a screen in the hose that has been blocked by sediment, thereby blocking water from flowing into the machine, or there may be a problem with the timer, which controls which water flows when. The suggestion I received from my other half was check the cheapest thing first: I guess the order would be screen in hose, then check valve at back of machine, then timer, if you have a resident handyman(or a reasonably priced appliance shop nearby).
