Note from Gemini

I had an appointment with my doctor this morning. Found out that the x-ray of my elbow showed nothing wrong with the bone... so he did a couple more things to test and said that I have "tennis elbow" and wearing my wrist splint will help the elbow by keeping the wrist still and not moving the muscles and tendons up to and in the elbow area. I had noticed that over the last few months, that whenever I wore my wrist splint for the day in the evening my elbow wasn't hurting *quite* as much as it would on days I didn't wear my wrist splint. So that mystery is solved. ;o)

My blood work showed that my sugar is normal, thank goodness (my oldest sister has diabetes, and I didn't want it on top of everything else I have). However my cholesterol is a bit high. He told me he could give me pills to help it. I asked how I could get it under control without pills and he said I would have to not eat any fat, exercise more, and lose weight. Yeah... like I haven't tried to lose weight for years without any success.... but, I guess if I don't want to have to take more pills, I am going to have to work much harder at it and see if I can get it under control myself. But.... there are so many foods that I like that have fat in them. :o/ *sigh* So with the Diverticular Disease needing more fiber, and now with the high cholesterol needing no fat... I am going to have to *try* to eat a high fiber - no/low fat diet. Jeesh, I can't have ANY fun! LOL

Well, I'm off now. I promised Matthew that I would make my Dad's recipe for sukyaki sometime this week and haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I have all the stuff needed, just need to muster up some ambition to do it. ;o)

I'm not sure when I'll be on again... sometime within the next week I would hope. So, take care and keep smiling! :o)

*hugs* Gemini

My husband and I are trying a low glycemic index diet, which has high fiber, low sugar and starches, and a moderate amount of fat, mostly olive oil. We're both losing weight slowly. I've lost a bit over 10 pounds by now and am halfway to my goal. My husband has diverticulosis, so he has to eat a lot of fiber. I chose this diet for weight loss because I knew it would suit him as well.

It's similar to the South Beach diet, but has more fiber. We eat entirely whole wheat bread, no sweets except those with a small amount of fructose instead of sugar, nothing with white flour, no white rice, and no potatoes except for red potatoes boiled in their skins. We eat some kind of beans or chickpeas or barley three or four times a week.

You don't have to join any expensive plan to do the South Beach diet. You can just buy a book and follow the directions. If you add even more beans and whole wheat products, it would be pretty much our diet. (Ours is from a book that's not available in English.) Plus my husband begins the day with a bowl of All Bran to get even more fibre.
