October threads received

I have received a lovely group of threads from David. He sent a great variety of colors and yarn weights. He also included some a sheet of braille and I'm having fun trying to "read" it.

Here we go again :-) Sorry David, what is a godseye?? All this because being a self-taught person (when it comes to crochet, embroidery, knitting and some other crafts), there are a lot of things that I can do/make but don't know what they are called. Now that I'm here........what are 6x6 Square?? Thank you !! Sofia D

Hi Sofia,

The 6x6 square is either a knit or crocheted square that measures 6x6 inches and we do a monthly exchange of two squares with a new partner. I've posted the FAQ's for it just before the sign up list. If you don't see it, please feel free to send me an offlist note and I'll send them to you.

Hugs,

Nora

Thank you Nora, I was curious. And why is it done? To exchange ideas, skills? Or to end up with a complete piece when all those 6x6 are put together? Sofia D

I just had a look too, David. Not only do they have instructions, but they do have pictures along with it. Some pictures are showing how they are being made, and there are finished pictures too. Thank you for sharing!

*smile*

I googled for a few instructional pages, I assume they have photos too. The basic godseye is two sticks in a + or x, start at the center with some yarn, wrap the yarn around the center to hold the two sticks together, then start going around each stick, in the same direction, one at a time, in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. They're very pretty.

Nora... do you have a yahoo picture sharing site? You really should, so that you can post the pictures of your gorgeous afghans.... including the one you made from the 6x6 squares that you got from the others. Then Sofia could see what can be done with them. Just beautiful, honestly!! :o)

Hi Gemini,

No, I don't have a website with the pictures. I don't use the jpg. so there isn't a site that will let me show them. That's why I have to send them to the person direct like I have done. I tried putting one in the format that Yahoo wanted and it still wouldn't allow me to have an album. Thank you for the compliments.

Hugs,

Nora

Ahh, that's too bad. Like I said about pictures the other day... it won't let me put Matthew's picture on there because it isn't in jpg either. What a pain, huh?

As for the compliments... they are all very true words! :o)

Hi Gemini.Thank you but as it seems Nora and I we have a combined problem. She can't show her pics and I can't go there to see them. My PC is still being very much itself and going on the Net is a nono.

Hi David, Thank you very much. The way you explained I imagine some kind of snow crystals. Unfortunately I can't go there, but my imagination helps :-)

Hi Sofia,

Snow crystals? Not at all, godseyes are very very simple to make. Did you check out the websites I gave?

Gem - have you tried "save as" jpg for the picture of Matthew? That should work. Or try e-mailing it to me and I can try it. BUT - only e-mail it if it's not over 200 KB...... I have dial-up. ;>)

Sofia, since you can't get to the website to read and see it, I am posting the instructions here for the first one for you.

-- Mini God's Eyes

Add a pin for a great swap, add a loop for an interesting ornament or add some cord make a necklace.

The Ojo de Dios or God's Eye is an ancient symbol made by the Huichol of Mexico. The central eye was made when a child was born. Each year, a bit of yarn was added until the child turned five at which point the Ojo is complete.

You need: Multi-colored yarn Mini Craft Sticks Low Temp Glue Gun or Tacky Glue Instructions:

Glue two mini craft sticks together forming and "X". Glue the end of the yarn to the middle where your sticks cross.

Begin by wrapping the yarn over and around one leg of one craft stick, then over and around the next next leg. Pull the yarn tight each time and push it toward the center.

Continue until the craft sticks are covered. Glue and trim.

Actually, the second link only opens to pictures (very pretty ones), but it won't go further for me to the instructions.... and the third link won't open for me at all. So the instructions I posted for the first link, will have to do. Sorry!
