OFF TOPIC.. just me rambling

I don't have an outdoor thermometer, but yesterday was SO hot and humid I actually went into the pool THREE times. The first time was about 5 pm, then while preparing supper (just a LOT of cut vegetables and dip... it was far too hot to think about cooking) and while I was eating I found myself getting hotter and hotter. So about 8 pm I was back in the pool again to cool down the body temperature.

When I came in and sat in front of the computer with a huge towel wrapped around me so I could just air-dry a bit, I found myself feeling hotter and hotter again. So about 10 pm (yes it was a little dark), I went back in the pool one more time. How peaceful it was though... floating around on my back (after swimming laps again) gazing up at the stars in the sky. :o)

Casper comes out with me each time I go in the pool and just sits on the outside of the fence surrounding it, staring off across the yard. Poor little guy, he is still missing Buffy a lot. I went out on the steps of the back deck at midnight last night when he went out to relieve himself and watched him walk slowly around. He went only up as far as the pool, whereas he and Buffy used to go all the way to the back of the yard, then he would turn around and slowly walk back to me for a pat. After he did this a couple of times, I stood up and made like I was going to chase him (not about to do that in the dark, I would likely twist my ankle and fall)... he ran happily with his tail wagging. He stopped and looked at me, waiting for me to make another move... so I did, and he charged toward me like a little white tornado whizzing just out of reach as I reach out to touch him... then he turned and ran by again in the same way.... all with a happy doggy smile on his face and tail wagging. Finally after about three times, he ran all the way to the back of the yard behind the pool. I slowly backed up a few steps to the steps of the deck and sat to rest and cool off in the nice air. After a couple of minutes Casper came back down the yard, came to me for a pat, and then went up the steps and to the back door wanting to go inside. He was lonely and needed a little playtime to make him feel okay again.

When we went in the door he stopped very briefly by the door to the recroom, and looked up at me. After Buffy passed away, I put her water bowl at the top of the stairs behind that door. I almost wonder if he thinks Buffy might be down there... or maybe he just caught a whiff of her scent coming from the water bowl behind the door? I may open the door today and take him downstairs to look around.... it's been months since he has been down there at all.

Hi Gem,

Your story is very touching, and well written. I feel for Casper. It must be confusing for him.

Hugs,
