That reminded me of the time when I went into hospital to have my heart bypass. Because I was so worked up I was rushed in hospital a few days before the operation. I took with me a small long stitch embroidery to do. The day before my surgery I sorted the threads out colour wise and put them on a card. I put a few stitches in the canvas.

Two days after my surgery when I was got out of bed I picked the embroidery up and started again. A couple of days later the doctor came to see me and remarked on my embroidery. I had my op. on the Monday and was going home on the Saturday but my heart went into an irregular rhythm and I had to be put on a drip. It was beating so fast they could not take my pulse. It finally settled down and I finished the embroidery. When the doctor came round I asked him if I could go home because I had finished my picture and had no more with me to do.

He picked the picture up and took it around all the other wards telling them to look at the beautiful picture that I had done. Then he brought it back and said I could go home. I still have that picture on my wall. My fears and terrors about my surgery went into it and every little irregular heart beat. Actually a funny thing occurred that helped bring my heart beat back to normal but that is for another telling. Shirley
