My Old Knitting Rant

Hi Everyone,

After reading the note from Noreen, I thought I would share this story with all of you. A picture of the afghan is in my album under other projects.

woman that I used to work near knew that I did knitting and her DDraised keeshound dogs. She had found this pattern that she loved and ithad a horse in the middle of it, but she wanted a dog.The originalpattern was from an old "McCalls Needlecraft Magazine". Another gal whoworked near both of us was a great artist and said to her, bring in apicture of the dog and I'll put it on graph paper and Nora can knit it.She did and that's the dog. Well, I quoted her a price for doing itplus all the yarn as there were a lot of colors. In fact she bought allthe yarn so she could get the correct colors she wanted, and I adjustedthe price I was asking. I did knit the outside panels with the flowers, but the middle had to be done with the afghan stitch and the dog put onafterwards. It took me about six months or more to do, can't rememberjust how long as it's been over thirty years. Anyway, when I got itdone, I called her to come over and get it and she did. The problem, she didn't think it was worth the money that I was charging her, thought it should be much less. I told her fine, when you decide to payme what I'm asking, you will get the afghan. Even though I still sawher every day at work, she told everyone I was overcharging her. I gotso mad that I took the afghan into worked and showed everyone and theysaid I didn't charge enough and she should pay more. By then, her DDwanted to know where the afghan was if I had finished it. She told heryes, but it's not worth the price. Her DD said, pay her for it as Iwant it. After six months, she finally called me at home one day andsaid all right, I'm bringing the check over to get the afghan. She did,but before she came, I told her no check I want cash, even though Iknew her check wouldn't bounce I didn't want to take that chance. Onemonth after getting the afghan she retired from work and I've only raninto her once since then. End of story. Hugs,

Nora

Hi Auntie O,

Thanks, I thought it came out rather nice. The background is a dark hunter green, not black.

Hi BB,

Yes, I liked the way it turned out, just wish she had appreciated all the work that went into it. Oh well, as others on here have said, some people never do.

Hugs,

Nora

Nora, that afghan is gorgeous, and she was lucky you didn't just pay her for the yarn and tell her to forget it. Sounds like you would have had plenty of other takers for it!

Hi Carey,

I don't know about that as the dog was like the one that her DD had raised from a puppy.

What a story, Nora. Some people have nerve. She probably retired out of shame.

I have never done a project to sell to someone. Some of what I have been reading from you and Noreen makes me think that I never will.

I think that afghan is pretty amazing, what an undertaking. That would look really nice on a bed.

Hi Ladies,

Thank you for the comments and I knew Noreen would know what I went through. She never told anyone at work that she finally did pay for it, but I made sure that everyone knew.

Hugs,
