Hi

I would like to make a comment about envelopes that are being sent to people without Darlene in Toronto

sorry hit enter too quickly.

I think the envelopes that have yarns and small items in them should only be sent to people who want to participate not everyone. I have received two of these and have never stated that I wanted to participate. These envelopes are expense to sent on especially when you didn't ak to receive it.

Please understand that some of us read the group as we enjoy it but do not have the time to participate in the various exchanges.

Sorry if this offends anyone but please understand my view.

Darlene, I am agreeing wiht you. No am am not offeneded. I did not want to be the one to stop this mailing and did sent it on to you, and in doing so passed the concern and the decission making, of this kind of mailing on to you, sorry about that. Thanks for saying and doing what I should have done

I do think however, that the thoughts behind the mailing come from a good and kind heart, and are well meant.

I agree that the thoughts behind the mailing was well mean and from a good and kind heart but I just thought that people should be asked if they want to participate.

Hi Darlene & Els,

I do agree with you too as I've received three so far. Now a suggestion, how about sending an email to the person you want to send it to to see if they want it or not. If you can't find someone who does, then send it back to the original person who started it.

Hugs,

Nora

That is a very good point, and I agree with you on that

Well Nora, that suggestion does not totally deal with the problem of not wanting to receive these envolopes at all. Maybe the people who do want to be in on it, should set up some sort of system, as we do for the 6x6 and the exchange of the threads. However another point here, we are getting rather entangled in exchange mailings, and maybe are getting a bit away from just being a discussion group. What does everyone else think

I agree with Els and think that the exchanges that we have are enough and don't really need anything more.

I think the thread exchange, 6x6 exchange and the secrets projects are enough. If we want to send something to an individual that should be up to us.

I like the discussions that are part of this group and hope that people understand that exchanges are nice but the newsgroup should be a discussion group as well.

I am involved in the secret projects but do not have the time to participate in other exchanges.

Hi Els!

I took away the OT since this is about the ng. I really miss the discussion part of the ng. I don=B4t have anything at all against the exchanges, but I would really =

like to see more fiber discussions.

Moreover, let=B4s no forget that a group with too many OTs riskes to be=20 closed down by server adminitrators. It=B4s not the tag OT to be wrong,=20 it=B4s the OT content of messages to be wrong. Usenet really risk to die, partly under Microsoft pressure, partly=20 because of users, who don=B4t respect the main aim of groups. Making friends is lovely, but it is NOT the main reason of groups existin= g.

I agree with this bit: the 6x6 exchange and the thread exchange are all open and anybody reading the newsgroup can feel able to join in. They do lead onto fibre discussion - "what was that stitch you used?" - as well.

With the envelope... I hope no-one minds but it starts to seem a bit clique-y. I mean, I don't mind that it is going round, but when there are a lot of discussions on the newsgroup and someone isn't getting it, it starts to make you feel a bit left out. Maybe I came across too many cliques when I was young!

On the individual server level this might be correct. However most big news-servers wouldn't exclude part of a hierarcy (ie rec.crafts.textiles.yarn), unless they were also excluding the rest of rec.crafts.textiles, and probably rec.crafts itself. Individual news-servers might choose to only get a few newsgroups, but big news-servers with thousands of newsgroups don't get into that type of micro-managing.

OTOH, they might decide to stop news-groups completely, like AOL did, but I don't think OT posts on rcty would make that difference. However newsgroups were around long before AOL started its news-server.

Hi there,

I am with Noreen on this one. At this time I do not want to be involved either. I have a lot on my plate right now, with working and trying to get the house in shape.

There is nothing to miss. There have been many fibre related threads on the group. See the list of current discussions below:

  1. Noreen inquiring about a source for Koigu yarn
  2. Blocking a lace weight shawl
  3. Buying yarn online from USA to Australia
  4. Tumbling blocks design for an afghan
  5. Crewel World books
  6. Collecting odds and ends for using in fibre crafts
  7. A link to a photo of a crocheted basket
8 The Martha Stewart poncho (at least 3 threads there)
  1. Los lobe hose
  2. Pattern for baby booties
  3. Prairie Breeze shawl
  4. Swift and ball winder
  5. Tool for plying yarn
  6. Ugly projects
  7. Uh oh - Temptation (re LYS)

See the list of fibre discussions above. If that's not enough for you, start some threads of your own to encourage more discussion instead of complaining about it. If the exchange threads bother you - filter them out. Simple as that.

Hmmmm - seems to me that Usenet is flourishing quite well, and can also be read/replied on Google. New groups are being added all the time. I don't see the problem here.

Personally, I think we could cut out the birthday and anniversary greetings since so many of them are just "me too" messages. If you want to send greetings, send them privately. Just my 2 cents.

Exchange doesn=B4t bother me at all. Many people enyojs them and it=B4s=20 fine. I find that sometimes they take energy from other discussions, but =

it can be only my impression. I started two of the above threads :-)

I reply very seldom to greetings. If I can I do it privately.
