I hope and pray that everyone in the path of Katrina are safe and that you didn't have any damage from the hurricane. I know she will be hitting more states this coming week, in fact we may even get some rain from her too here in upstate NY.
DH and I are just waiting and seeing. It is supposed to cross the barrier islands Monday at 1 a.m., and reach our level 12 hours or so later, but as yet no-one knows exactly where it will land. I have laid in all the usual supplies, our house was built in 1917 and is raised up off the ground, so our chances are good. If the power goes off, I may not be able to post for a day or two.
p.s. It is not true that New Orleans is below sea level. If it were, we wouldn't be here. Some of it is very low-lying - like in the marshes and the bayous - and many of those are outside the levee system so they flood easily, but the folk who live there know how to cope and when to flee.
I don't think it will hit NC in a big way, but I was watching the news. It sounds absolutely horrible. I am glad to see a long, long, stream of cars fleeing the area, and hope that destruction of homes is at a minimum. Kira
Adding my prayers and best wishes to all those affected by this horrible hurricane. I just saw some footage of it on the news... makes me all the happier to live where I live. The worst weather we get is the bad windstorms of tornadoes passing by the outside of our area, and major snow storms in the winter... but that we can dig out of afterward. I can't imagine the fear and worry of living in, and having to leave behind, the areas hit by these horrific hurricanes and such. My heart goes out to all of you!
