This must be a joke. Today is normal day, there's no mention about any special. And there's no such thing as "St. Urho". Only Urho there was that could be mentioned, is our President, mister Urho Kekkonen.

Yes, Johanna, it is a joke but a fun one. The Irish immigrants have such fun on St. Patricks Day in the US that some Northern Minnesota Finns decided they need a day too. See

the story. In the US many small towns were settled primarily byimmigrants of one country or another and they often have festivals orfun events that celebrate that heritage.(My home town was Danish - though I am not. My mother was partlyScottish and her little town celebrated Robert Burns' birthday as thebiggest event of the year.

Ok. This is a joke and has nothing to do with Finland. It's a Finn's excuse to drink in USA, it seems... In Finland Finns don't need any excuse to get drunk and "celebrate" ;)

When I was a Eastern I knew a girl who was from Ireland. She said that in Ireland St. Pat's wasn't really a big deal. When you wanted to go out and party for a holiday, you went on Christmas. Christmas, at least in her area, wasn't much more than a religious or drinking holiday. Christmas gifts aren't done to the extent they are here.

Tomorrow I have obedience class at night, sadly, otherwise I'd have gone to the Kalamazoo Wings/Ft. Wayne Komets "Green Ice" game... and celebrated being DONE with my 10 day stretch at work (I hate working that many days in a row. After day 7 I'm pretty much burnt out and nothing gets me too riled up).

ooooo Amanda, I wish we could go to the Komets-KWings game together!

I'm really, really missing hockey this year.

And I haven't been to KWings Stadium for 30 years. I'd love to see the green ice there. Heck, I'd like to see *any* hockey ice these days. :)

I remember when Ted Garvin, coach of the Toledo Goaldiggers, would dye his hair green and wear a green suit on St. Pat's Day games. lol
