RCTY Diet Club

A few years ago, a group of us started a diet club at Yahoo. It worked for a while, and we hope that it will soon start to work again. If any of you are interested in taking off the Christmas weight - or any other excess weight you might be carrying around - why not drop by? We weigh on Wednesdays, and try to report healthy eating and physical activity. Here is the URL if you are interested.

Ummm... do we *have* to say how much we weigh?

That is entirely up to you. THere is a spreadsheet which we use, but I don't think I'll be reporting my weight for the next little while.

hehehe Santa brought us a box of Haviland chocolates... and I felt like I got fooled. The caramels are wrapped in foil, and when I unwrapped one... that's exactly what it was... a plain ordinary caramel.... NO CHOCOLATE ON IT AT ALL. :o( Nevermind... I got a chocolate covered brazil nut! ;o)

It would be nice to see some new members join the group. We do try and keep track up gains and loses but weight is not necessary. It's great having the support of friends when we are trying to lose weight.

I may be too old for this group, but about 8 yrs ago I took off 101lbs my way and I still to this day have a very hard time. I had surgery a year ago and gained 20 and its the hardest thing to get back off...yoyo just cant get it to stay off.I have the same hard time as I did 8 yrs ago but I am trying everything,,,seems that calorie count comes closest to working but, maintenance is still a biggy! I didnt have stomache surgery or anything like that, had heel surgery, so being active was a problem and still is. Thanks

You are never too old for this group. We just try and give each other the much needed support to get moving and also to watch what we eat.

I keep track of the necessary spreadsheets and it's one way to help each other while we try to lose the weight.

Hi Cal,

I just joined too. Exercise is a problem for me too as I have arthritis. I used to keep control of my weight in the past by doing aerobics videos and classes but now that's not possible any more. But I can still walk and swim so that will have to be my new exercise regime.

Calorie counting does work for me but once the weight is gone I start to ease up a little, then a little more, and before you know it the weight is back. Hopefully, this time will be different for all of us!

WOW.... I just reread Cal's comment about taking off 101 lbs.... congratulations!!! I actually read that the first time as 10 lbs, because I didn't notice the last 1 beside the letter l.

And Liz, I have arthritis too, and degenerative discs (near my waist and my neck) which the lower one totally messed up last week and is just now starting to feel semi-normal again... and I also have Fibromyalgia. So swimming is the best exercise for me (gentler on the body), but I can't do it now... I could go figure skating on my pool at the moment. LOL And walking, I would love to do.. but that too has to wait until the snow and ice is gone, as I have a tendancy to slip and fall (ever since I badly sprained my leg... tearing all the ligaments from my ankle to my hip 14 years ago). Someday I would love to get a treadmill so I could do some walking inside the house on snowy, icy or just wet days. I would also like to be able to get one of those exercise bikes that has the backrest so I wouldn't strain my back too much. Unless I win a lottery, swimming has to wait until summer, as I definitely can't afford a pool membership at the Golf & Country Club here in town... mega expensive.

-- Meanwhile, the little exercise I do get is walking back and forth from the front door through the livingroom, the computer/diningroom, the kitchen, and into the bathroom and back again. I don't do it often though... especially not within this past week with my back messed up... because I need to rest more often than not. When I do stand at the sink to wash up a couple of dishes, I try to stretch my legs a bit too... by bringing my heels up toward my behind... or by stooping a little (I can't get all the way down) while holding the sink. Any bending I do is done VERY slowly, and it's usually just enough to get the dog's water bowls and put them back down... as that lower degenerative disc doesn't like me bending a lot. I do ankle turns while sitting at the computer... and wrist turns when my hands and arms aren't bothering me too much. And I *have* to do slow neck turns to try to help keep my neck strengthened a bit because of that disc. That's the extent of my exercise.... pretty pathetic, huh?

That's very true! I really do try to remember to stretch my legs (heels up toward my butt) at least once a day... and a few squats (slight ones) once in a while too. If for no other reason, than to keep the blood flowing properly. :o)

I haven't! :o( We got a box of chocolates that I *thought* was a good deal. Reminder to self.... less expensive does NOT equal GOOD!! Never mind... a lesson was learned... I will not be buying that brand of chocolates again.

Funny how we all get taken in my that. Much better off getting a smaller box of the better ones, right?

Yes! I keep telling myself, 3 big bars for the price of 2 is not a bargain - one small, good bar of expensive chocolate is, as I won't buy any more until next payday, and I can enjoy it and not feel too guilty!
