I just got a shipment of gansey yarns from Iriss of Penzance.
These authentic British breed gansey yarns are as different from any wool yarn that I have ever knit; as silk is different from wool. First, they are stretchy beyond belief, which makes them a delight to knit fast and tight. Second, they look like crap if they are not knit just right. I need knitting lessons!!! No wonder these yarns are not popular for general knitting!
But for a master knitter, I really can see how these would be the yarns of choice. And, more than any other yarn that I have ever worked with, it is the yarn that I would like to wear when I am active in cool weather.
That acrylic gardening sweater is going to get cut up into paint rags real soon now.
