Socks

I love handknit socks. So does my son, and he likes for his children to have them in the winter as well. That's enough to keep me going! I also like the portability, and the way they allow me to try new stitches without making a major investment of time or yarn.

There are a couple of ways of doing it. It seems that the most popular method now is called "magic loop". I don't like using circulars for socks. I tried several different methods, and felt as though I was knitting with spiders. I'll stick to my DPNs, thanks. But other people love circulars. TO each her own!

I've tried knitting socks on two circulars and I know what you mean. It seems to me that some of the problem is that the cords on circulars are too stiff and hence don't drape well out of the road when not it use. Can anyone recommend a brand of circulars with soft cords?

I am a note taker , but for the most part , I don't need to in some classes. I jitter and such if forced to " sit still" so I ask the instructor the 1st day of class if they mind , never had a problem yet and I maintain a 4.0 GPA , so I guess it is going well . But , to each their own ( grin)

Oh absolutely. I was reliving my lecture days (ten years + ago now), they made us work very hard, you had to write solidly the entire time to get all the info down. My students don't think it but they have it much easier - at least I give them a summary handout at the beginning of the lecture! And from my perspective up the front I'd rather see a student knitting than sleeping (or worse yet - talking. Why do people not understand that lecture theatres are designed with great acoustics and I CAN hear you talking in the audience)!

I must admit i tried the 2 socks on 1 circular on my mittens , i thought it should work but made a mistake ,,,, thus let it go , but i might try it again , with mittens ,,, If i can knit a Moebious , why can`t i work out the 2 socks/ mittens thing , i think my break point was the place it changed into the other mitten , it seemed to me the pull will leave a mark all the way ,,,,,, My mistake for not finding the solution ,,,, mirjam

Last Week in the train i was knitting , but also got a call on my cellular , I answered it, [shortly ] , and got a Remark from a guy the other side of the chair , If i could please NOt talk on the phone as he is studying fot an important Exam , and anyway my discussion wasn`t important !!! Leaving alone the fact , that my short discussion was important, but done so shortly that he couldn`t know what it was about,,, i thought the whole situation Hilarious ,,, Having studied in my time in various strange situations and places i understood his dillema, but told him he was rude. Around us many phones rung , people talked , and he only remarked it to me , because i was the oldest and knitted ....He got a red face , But his friend sitting next to him , started to discuss the matter with me. [ which `strangely` enough didn`t disturb the study ]

I've never knitted in public, but I did buy a bag to carry around my sock projects for waiting at the doctors etc. Only completed one sock so far and half of another. That one sock felt so good I want lots lol

People on phones don't bother me I learn to switch annoying people off.

My daughter aged 16 and her friends have been wearing unmatched socks for years. I was taking pity on a particular friend for about 6 months and even bought the kid some new socks until my DD pointed out that was the fashion to wear them like that. My dd did it just to annoy me I thought but no, it was the fashion LOL

I hate wearing socks with shoes but have to have them wearing trainers/sneakers and for around the house. I can't stand having cold toes.

I wouldn't of thought a train was a good place to study at all no. Bad manners to put yourself in a public place and expect everyone else in public to be quiet. Even worse to zone in on just one person and complain :o(
