Shelagh,

These are beautiful! Have a question RE the "Jolly Green Giant Slippers." LOL Am I seeing right that the sole is felted or have you used another substance/material for the sole? If it is felted like the top of the slipper, are they slippery (gee, no pun intended!) on the floors 'round the house? Aaron (I think it was) suggested using a product called "shoe goo" for making house socks less slippery. Have you done something like that? I was wondering, too, but didn't get to ask Aaron if that goo stuff has to be re-applied every time the socks are washed. (Perhaps you know that or don't... I really should ask Aaron!)

Anyhow, beooooteeful work! Eve :o)

Shelagh,

I love the lapghan ... great work! How long have you been crocheting/knitting?

OH YES ... let's talk about the felted bears!!!

I WANT .... NEED to know how to do that! I have the wool, I have the needles, and I've tried, but it's just not staying together. Could you go over a bit with us, how you felt .. how you hold the needle, how hard you punch, jab ... or whatever? What pressure do you use?

Thanks a bunch! Dee

Hi Shelagh,

Thanks for sharing all the pictures and I think my favorite is the rainbow sweater set. The lapafghan turned out really nice.

Those are the FiberTrend slippers and the sole is felted - I just used a different colour yarn. Actually the "extra" sole is knitted right onto it for extra wear. Be aware though, I had a huge problem with gauge on these slippers. The reason they're called the Jolly Green Giant slippers is because they ended up way too huge for my DH. If/when I knit them again I will swatch like crazy first, because I used other yarn than what the pattern called for.

No more so than any other knitted slipper.

making house socks less slippery. Have

When I make felted slippers for my family, for added wear I put leather soles on the bottom. I bought a suede leather coat at Value Village for $10, have soled 4 pairs of slippers already and still have lots left for more slippers. Sure beats buying the ready made soles for $17.95 or whatever.

be re-applied every time the socks

I haven't tried that product, so Aaron will have to help you out there ;>)

Thanks! Shelagh

Thank you! I've been crafting for a million years (laugh). A long time.... I have grandkids - so that should tell you.

Okay....

Our knitting group had a workshop one Saturday - our leader had ordered the kits for us - the kits had roving, needles and instructions, plus a big piece of foam to use when felting, to help keep us from stabbing ourselves. We just took a piece of roving, formed it into a round ball, and started stabbing it. Very carefully, I might add. One thing she impressed on us - do NOT share your felting needles, just in case you stab yourself and start bleeding. We did have a couple of people puncture themselves - nothing serious, but you must be careful. The more you stab, the more the roving felts, so it's up to you how dense you want your felting to be.

I've got a great link to a site about needle felting, and it has some wonderful pictures....once you see their projects you'll know how much of a beginner I am. My bears do not come even close to the "good" ones.

Nora, that sweater set is the one from Sirdar using their Snowflake nylon yarn - I ordered it through Mary Maxim a few years ago. The only thing that bugged me about that set was that the picture on the pattern showed (and still shows) pastel shades, when in reality the yarn is in bright colours. I would have preferred the pastel shades. Also, the Snowflake yarn is approximately $10 a ball, while both Bernat (Lulu) and Patons(Pixie) have since come out with a very similar yarn at half the price.

I know I'll enjoy the lapghan, and I'm glad to have finally put my friend's squares to good use.

Nice afghan, Shelagh! :o) Where did you find your patterns for the squares, or are they all from friends? I really like 112_1300, 113_1302,

113_1303, and 113_1304 a lot.

The mohair shawl for your mother-in-law is beautiful. I love that bright yarn you used for your Regia Sock, and those felted bears are adorable. ;o)

I was looking around at the rest of your albums too.... and although I am a dog lover, I fell in love with that Cat Chiminea at your friend's place! I have seen chimineas before, but not animals.... he is SOOO cute! ;o)

Those squares I highlighted came from my friend Mary Pat in Nebraska

The MIL never got that shawl. I still have it at home, and I guess I'd better update the pictures. I don't guess you heard about why she didn't get the shawl. That was two Christmases ago. I had worked on that shawl in the summer before Xmas, and had also knit a pair of merino wool dress socks for the FIL. Then - in early DECEMBER - they told us that they weren't doing gifts that year - they were going to donate to the Winnipeg Harvest. I had no problem with their reasons for doing what they did, but I had a huge problem with the timing of it. So, they have never seen those gifts. My DH got the socks and I got the shawl.

bears are adorable. ;o)

Aaawwww thanks.

We saw that chiminea a couple of years ago when the friend & I attended a gardening seminar at the flower conservatory at Assinniboine Park in Winnipeg. We were browsing in the gift shop and she went gaga for it. So, being the enabler I am, I encouraged her to buy it. (laugh).

Hi! Oh yes I have knitted much...very much. Have been sick too..and those law studies keep me busy too. I have no online in my apartment in that town where the law school is. But in the school itself has a classroom. And in that classroom there are many computers, so I can be online there. Best: Pirjo
