That sounds like the kind of case that is sold for sets of drill bits. Maybe you could carry some hooks to the hardware or home supplies store and test to see whether they fit a drill case; if they do, buy the case and give the drills to somebody.

Back when steel dpns were sold in wooden tubes, there were some wooden tubes made shorter to hold crochet hooks, which were often shorter then. The tubes show up on ebay fairly often if you search for antique or vintage knitting needles, and they're usually fairly cheap.

Hi, Kelly. I live in Maryland.

Hello Kelly and welcome. I am Bernadette and I live on the east coast of Scotland.

My son lives near Houston and works in the oil industry. He also crochets and is planning to make some more doilies and mats for his new home. However, he WILL not knit! :-)

Thank you Bernadette. I do love that small things such as knitting and such can connect people from all over the world.

Hi Kelly,

thanks for your suggestion - I had no idea cigars came like that!

I live in Vancouver, a large port city on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada. I've lived in this and surrounding area all my life so far.

I enjoy crocheting, writing plug-ins for an audio editor software Audacity, writing and playing music, reading, doing public speaking, writing. I tend to take breaks from all creative activities while I focus on another one. Currently taking a break from writing plugs and crocheting instead.

Welcome to the group.

Hi Richard,

That is _EXACTLY_ what I was thinking of!! And indeed I used to also have such a holder for drill bits... thanks for the suggestion!

Are you, by any chance, in Lancaster, CA? Because if you aren't, I'm astounded to find out that there's someone else in my exact same situation. Super Wal-Marts, check. Closed Hancock's, check. Jo-Ann's moved south, check. LYS opened downtown, check.

Well, except that I like most of the yarn at the LYS downtown and I've spent more money there than I'd like to admit to my husband. Blue Heron! Banana! Misti Alpaca! I got my own back a bit, when I told the owners about a great knitter's tee shirt I'd seen on the Yarn Harlot's blog and they each had to go buy one from Café Press.
