Santa got the day wrong!

On Christmas Eve, my laptop died (I promise this will eventually be on topic!), I posted about it here and thanks to my husbands access to various testing equipment, we were able to conclusively determine it wasn't the hard drive and that we didn't have to go through a pointless reformat and were able to send it off to repair with the hard drive safely with us. It's taken it's time and the company didn't use a fast service to return it to us, plus FedEx failed to deliver it on Friday, we can't track down what happened we were in when they say they attempted delivery, but also they didn't leave a "we tried to deliver" note, so we don't know what to believe. Finally, the door bell rang at about 3pm, typically it was absolutely tipping it down with rain and I got soaked crossing the deck. Imagine my surprise when as well as my laptop, there was a serger as well! Obviously sergers don't appear entirely out of nowhere, this was a bonus offer with my new sewing machine, but I didn't expect it for another a couple of weeks and didn't know what delivery method they would use, so it was a pleasant surprise!

So now, despite saying I'd never buy a serger, I'm a serger owner! I'll be going back to find all the suggested uses offered when Sunny (iirc) asked. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions, I remember something about fleece pants, which sounds like a great idea. The instruction book looks very scary and there is a DVD as well! I'll need to buy some thread, are there any recommended brands? I'm planning to get black initially as I have a piece of knit fabric which I'm going to make a jacket from (I have the pattern) and that needs to be black and I think if I make pants, they will be a dark colour.

Looking forward to reading on Thunderbird not Google Groups!

Cheers Anne

Loading thread data ...

I like Thunderbird - though you have to find your own way around in the beginning as the help bit isn't! Just remember, if you go down the list use n to get to the next message, or if you want to skip a thread altogether press t and the threads will be marked as read. However, make sure you haven't got the caps lock on when you do this as n and t wont work in capitals!

Also although you can block you can't delete any posts except your own, but if they are marked as read you'll never land on them again anyway without effort.

I phrased that wrong, I should have said "back to reading in thunderbird". If you select to ignore a thread it makes it invisible, not just marked as read, I use that whenever a completely junk topic pops up, thankfully rare on RCTQ, but not on some other groups I read.

What kind of serger? Name, model, manufacturer? What sewing machine outfit tossed in the bonus serger? Inquiring minds want to know!

It's a Brother 3034D, MSRP 599, not sure what you might actually pay if you were buying it. Quite a few Brother sewing machines had this offer on before Christmas, with the end date at the end of December, but I'm sure I've seen something since that indicates it's still on.

Glad to hear your computer is working again, and you have a new serger to play with too.... I know what you mean about waiting for delivery of a special package, I stayed home today waiting for one that never arrived..

I posted earlier today about suggestions for what to do with a gift card I received. I think I will put it towards a serger, although several readers here had ideas for things I could send to them.....Never thought I'd be able to have a serger. I always got along without one, but think I could put it to use in lots of ways... I'm currently on medical disability for chemo treatments. The plan is for me to go back to work for a couple of years then retire. With all the projects I've been working on since I'm at home, my retirement plans are taking shape quite nicely..... I can see several directions they might take as far as items I could produce and sell at the many local craft shows we have here....
