Tams - my new addiction

I just finished my second go at making these. I've been using the book Knitted Tams by Mary Rowe for guidance and sometimes charts. These pics are pre-blocking, so they don't have the shape and are not yet evened out.

Beautiful work, BB! Isn't it funny how we get *addictions* to projects? :D Noreen

Thanks Noreen!

I know why I like making these. Mostly done on circs so no seams and just the last bit is on dpns, fun colorwork, and a project small enough that I actually finish the knitting. Just my cup of tea :)

Thanks Aaron! They really are fun to make. I don't see myself wearing them, but that's not stopping me.

Thanks Sue! It's fun seeing how the colors work with each other. In one place, they gray looks blue, in another place, they gray looks pink :)

They're a great project, and you're GOOD at 'em! I like socks and hats for portable on-the-go projects, moebious and shawls for 'at-home' projects..... :D Noreen

WOW! They are GORGEOUS!!!!!! I am SO impressed. I made a beret out of lovely alpaca wool recently but it ended up so large at the edge I had to rip it out and try again. Still came out too large. I should check out that book you used! Lovely, simply lovely. Wendy

are really much easier to make than I expected them to be. I used the standard size, but the book gives lots of advice about how to alter sizes if necessary.

Colors many a time `lend` a bit from their neigbour threads and `look` different, mirjam

They remind me of the berets my mother made during the war, they were fashionable and she sold them through the drapers' shop at the bottom of the street. Beautiful things. I always wore them too, with matching mittens.

I still have a pattern from those years, she used one basic pattern and adapted the fair-isle according to the odd yarns she had. It was pin money (should be needle money!) for very hard times.
