The Knitted Martha Poncho

Mar 18, 2005 5 Replies

I see Lion Brand has finally acknowledged the woman who made the poncho for Martha:

Quote from their latest newsletter "Lion Brand would like to recognize the woman who hand-crocheted the now-famous poncho. Although the prison will not release her name, one newspaper reported that it was Xiomaro Hernandez. We honor her creativity and the wonderful inspiration she has provided to many people. Lion Brand will make a donation of yarn and crochet hooks to the Alderson prison facility in honor of her work and her generosity."

Go here for the knitted version: Note they only have a picture of the crocheted version....

Well, it's clear that there are very many extenuating circumstances, but still, this knitter by using their yarn inadvertently gave them millions of dollars worth of free publicity. Bottom line, some donated yarn and needles is a pittance. I don't know what I'd advocate, but... it's a pittance.

(Shillelagh, in case it goes through, though I gather from your address it probably won't, I clicked on the wrong button. Didn't intend to invade your email.)

I agree with you on this - a trust fund with a pile of money in it should be set up for her.

Don't worry about the e-mail - that's a phoney address to try to keep the spammers out. ;>)

Sure, or maybe for her kids if she has any. If she does, she must be terribly worried about them. That would be classy on their part.

After all, if she were a star athlete and she said the words "Lions Brand Homespun" on the Leno show they'd give her a car. And a lifetime supply of Lions Brand. AND some hooks. Lol.

Wow, we really are of a side track here.....maybe there is a good "soap opera material to be found here"....LOL

No way! Yarn and hooks in every post! lol Regards KQ
