this is what I just received from Interweave press

"Join the Poncho Craze! FREE poncho pattern from Interweave Press The Freedom Poncho by Lily M. Chin

Ever since Martha Stewart walked out of prison wearing a hand-crocheted poncho, crocheters and knitters across the country have been clamoring to find a pattern to make it their own. The "Freedom Poncho" pattern was created by Lily Chinóknit and crochet diva and fashion designer extraordinaire."

If you want to see the patterns you have to go to the interweave website. My server will not allowe, pictures transposed like that, so I can not see, what the poncho's look like.

Also here is another quote from the same website:" A Final Note: On March

11, 2005, The New York Post reported that Xiomaro Hernandez crocheted the now-famous poncho for Martha Stewart in the minimum-security prison camp in Alderson, W. Va. We at Interweave Press hope that Ms. Hernandez knows how appreciative the crochet audience is of the national spotlight that her gift and creativity have inspired. Our Freedom Poncho is a result of that inspiration. Interweave Press is also donating subscriptions to several of its magazines along with a variety of its knitting and crochet books to the prison facility in Alderson, W. Va."

I have a feeling that many of you will be happy with the above.

Have a nice evening,

Els

Yesterday in the news they showed , some people, who like Martha have this Foot monitor,,, And they said that for men it was easy to hide under their pants , but for ladies it was harder to hide , So they showed a shomaker /designer , who designed ladies shoes meant to camuflage the monitor. His last designes were lady shoes with Mini Ponchos covering the ankle !!! mirjam

I went to the website and am wondering if Interweave's pattern is the pattern Hernandez used or just another knockoff created in the wake of the poncho frenzy. ~Peggy

what a hoot! I see the return of "spats"...

There was an article about the popularity of Martha's poncho on the front page of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. It said it was made of LionBrand Homespun yarn. According to a person at one shop, there have been many requests for the pattern because of all the publicity. But another said new requests are just due to the change in seasons. After all, it's not easy to wear a poncho under your parka during the winter

Oh, Peggy I am sure that you are right....

remember when I was in college we wore white spats with our uniformsfor the pipe and drum group I played drums in. I wish I had learned toplay the bagpipes while I was at it - but I didn't. The white spatswere somewhat of a pain as they would get dirty and had to be cleanedand polished with white shoe polish for each appearance.

It is never to late to do that as yet, I will come and cheer you on.

I am DEFINITELY happy with this news, Els!
