Blunt-Nosed Scissors

This would be a great gift for my DM. She had a freak accident while sewing about a month back with the fiskars micro tip scissors. She ended up with

If at all possible, I pull the bobbin thread up to the top to deal with. Bobbin threads left to their own devices can get quite creative and get into all sorts of mischief. Polly

For what it is worth, these are the only kind of scissors our security people allow to come in to the courthouse. As the head honcho told me "Hold up your little finger, palm towards you. The shape of the blade tip should be the same as your finger [not the nail]."

I like them for not poking holes in my bag all the time ;)

Before I retired, many courthouses had gotten rather silly about their security rules. One was that everyone had to wear an i.d. tag hanging around their necks. Nobody ever seemed to notice that the one I wore identified me as a . . . well, nevermind. You can imagine. They also insisted that we were not allowed to carry mace. Why anyone would want to cook turkey stuffing in a courthouse was beyond me. Polly

This I learned the hard way. I was just too trusting!

I do have to wear an id tag, but it is clipped on my pocket. Hanging around my neck caused more than one accidentwhen I leaned over a cart full of files and the badge caught - yep I "clothes-lined" myself.

As for Ms Flutterby's question, I had someone sit down with me to show me how to double crochet - I am one of those who have to watch and learn, not just read it. And learned about going through the post or the front/back loops. And practising since one of the Public Defenders asked me to crochet him a yamulke for his wedding in July. Black and gold. Got the yarn, found some gold metallic thread. Also recently got a child's size knitting board and want to try that [it's like an oblong version of the nifty knitter].

YAY! For your progress. Never heard of the knitting board altho it does sound interesting. SIL and I did finish the Christmas crocheted afghan (red/white/green yarn I bought when you and I went shopping) and it has been gifted: ) And we have enuf left over to make a small lap robe --too scratchy for a baby. Wanna see pixs of the yarmulke.

A suggestion/hint/whatever: I discovered, once upon a time, a long time ago, that if I gently tug on my upper thread (when I am ready to cut my threads in the middle of an expanse of fabric) the bobbin thread loop will be slightly visible. IF I am careful, I can cut both threads at the same time, from the top. Of course when I discovered this the first time, I didn't want to cut the bobbin thread......... But now it is a neat, easy way to clip that bottom thread from the top and not worry about cutting the fabric underneath by clipping "blind".

Maybe this will help someone else.

I have several pairs of blunt-nosed scissors. Somewhere.

Son's gf, Erica, works at a Michaels Craft Store, so they got me a couple of Nifty Knitters for Christmas, along w/ a basket of yarns. Love the yarns. Yarns got me into Michaels looking at more yarn, where I fell in love w/ the "eyelash" yarn, aka Bernat Boa. Ohmygod! It's luscious! It's soft and cozy and slick and ooooo-wonderful! So I stocked up. I used to crochet all the time; still crochet a rag rug every year or so. On vacation I crocheted in the car, just a circle, no pattern, no counting, don't have to look at it, just single & double crochet in a circle. It's so soft! It's really good to use 2 strands of the yarn (I mixed black w/ blue and black w/ purple). I crochet fast; had a bed-sized coverlet in about 8 hours (Gene drives, I crochet & sing). A couple of friends saw the crocheted circle, Saturday. One is going to go get some yarn & bring it to me for a his own big, soft circle coverlet. The other is begging the current project right out of my hands ; she's my s-i-l, loves purple (I don't), so she can have this one. Meanwhile, the Patons Carmen & Lions brand Fun Fur yarn are also part of the re-furbished yarn stash. The P.Carmen is the softest thing I've ever touched other than a baby's eyebrows. Lovely. And did I mention "soft"? I'm blaming this on Erica. :-P

Sigh. Used to be that my loved ones knew they were safe from execution if they used blunt-nose scissors. Because those weren't the Sewing Scissors (of which I own far too many :-)
