poncho help

I never thought I'd start a topic with this subject because I am not a huge fan of ponchos. LOL! But I have a friend who would like to make one for her toddler (18 months) and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a pattern that they have used and liked. I seem to recall at least one very cute picture posted on here of someone's granddaughter in a poncho. Katherine, was that you?

The pattern needs to be easy and fast. My friend has knit for a long time but doesn't read patterns (I've promised to help her with that) and only has

2 weeks to complete the project. She is also open to learning how to crochet in order to complete the poncho since that may be faster.

TIA!

I made the Fun Fur Trimmed Poncho from the Lion Brand site for my daughter. I used the crochet instructions, but there are knit instructions as well. The Fun Fur trim is all done in crochet, though. I used Lion Boucle "Parfait" and Fun Fur "Raspberry" rather than the colors listed in the pattern. She is eight years old, so I made the medium size (8-14) and ended up needing a sixth ball of yarn even though the pattern calls for five. I have a lot of raspberry Fun Fur left.

can see from the pattern that all you do is make two rectangles ofthe same size and then join them together in a poncho shape. Youcould use the same basic idea to make many different types of ponchos. I will say that this poncho, in the Lion Boucle and Fun Fur yarns that the pattern calls for, is very warm and would not, IMO, be suitable for summer. It's perfect for fall, winter, and early spring.

Laura, I have saved a pattern which Letitia sent here, Paloma's poncho. But I cannot get to the pattern online! If you send me your e-mail, I will send the pattern to you!

Ah yes, I noticed that one yesterday and was going to suggest it to my friend. Thanks for the tip about the weight though - she would probably need to use a different yarn for summer (which seems to have finally arrived though a couple of days ago a winter poncho would have been quite appropriate!).

Yes, Laura, I think I was first charmed by Paloma, then I saw the poncho! AUD ;-))

Thanks Stella. I looked around that site yesterday but didn't see any baby ponchoes (or at least any that I liked).

We must live in the same area...or has warm weather been slow to arrive everywhere? The entire month of May was cloudy, cool, and damp.

I'm curious...why the sudden need for a poncho in the next two weeks? (especially since summer does seem to have finally arrived?)

Not yet, but I am starting one next week for Kandace. That being said, Lion Brand has some lovely poncho patterns.

My friend and I are both in Massachusetts - whereabouts are you?

It is true that the warm weather has finally arrived so maybe she won't need the poncho afterall. She is going to a wedding (hence, the two-week deadline) and had bought a cute sundress for her little girl but was thinking she'd need something to cover up with since it's been so cool lately.
