The nightmare begins...

I've begun cleaning out and organizing my sewing room so that I can start making my sons' Halloween costumes. They're going as Daniel Boone and Davy Crocket, and I'm knitting them coonskin caps and will make them "buckskin" jackets out of fake suede cloth. I found some clearance Fun Fur at Michael's crafts for $1 a skein, and it only takes 3 skeins per hat. I've only knitted a tail out of Fun Fur for my son's cat costume that I made for his first Halloween, and it can be a bear to work with. Wish me luck. Here's the pattern I'm using:

When I knit with the fake fur I use another yarn with it at the same time.....a color that bends in and usually in fingering weight. Makes it easier for me.....not much but it helps to keep track of the stitches.

Good luck, Lisa! I love the picture on that pattern page, but I wouldn't care for knitting (or crocheting) with the fake fur yarn.

I've made costumes for my son (hand-sewn, and one knitted) every year since he was old enough to go out trick or treating on Halloween.... and I *still* make them for him now that he dresses up to answer the door for the other young trick or treaters on Halloween. He enjoys it as well as decorating the yard and foyer, and the kids (and parents) all love it too! :o) This year he is going to be a werewolf (he loves wolves and found a perfect grey wolf mask), so I bought some fake grey fur to make his arms and lower legs furry, and to have some fur sticking out from rips in his shirt and jeans. We also found a ghostly woman mask with white hair attached, and we bought some white flowing material that I will use to make a gown type thing to attach to the mask to hang outside along with the other decorations from last year. Nothing knitted or crocheted in the costume department this year... just hand-sewn. ;o)

*hugs* Gemini

had to use inch-think foam and ended up sewing most of it by hand, sewing machine refused to go thru 2 layers of the stuff! still have the pattern and the fish itself, my DH uses it every once in a while for bets at the office. thank goodness this year she wants to go as Audrey Hepburn from "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in the party scene..got the dress, need shoes, tiara, and gloves ..should be easy to find.
