I prefer Mirjam... mainly because that's what I have come to know you as and can't imagine calling you anything else now. :o)

My actual first name is Paula, my middle name is Ruth. My parents were going to call me Paula, but when a few of my siblings' friends came to see the new baby my Mom overheard a couple of them saying "Polly want a cracker?" and that made up her mind that I was NOT to be called Paula, but instead would be called Ruth. Gee thanks to all my siblings' friends... Paula is a prettier name. But in all honesty, when anyone calls out "Paula" now (at government offices, because they go by FIRST names on birth certificates), I often don't know who they're talking to.

Of course while I was growing up, and even now there are a couple of older people in town (my parents age) who call(ed) me Ruthie, which I absolutely hated with a passion. Even as a child I would say "Ruth!" in response. Then of course there were/are people who insist that since my name is Ruth, my second name MUST be Ann... so I sometimes get RuthAnn. NOT.... just plain ol' Ruth!

Nevermind, I prefer Gem anyway! And most of the online friends who I have met in person call me Gem! ;o)

Gemini
