Excellent site, thank you.

But I don't think steeking is for me, I hate machine sewing and couldn't be bothered getting out of my chair, setting up the machine etc.

I'll continue knitting in the round and incorporating sleeves at the same time :-) More fun!

When I knitted on a machine I did steekiing a lot but didn't know what it was called.

As I've said elsewhere you don't need to sew/tack the steek. There's a crochet anchor method that works well. And if you pick up and start the thing for which you're steeking you don't need to anchor the ends at all.
