Went to a local knitting club last night

Good day all,

I found a local knitting club at one of the libraries in the county. They meet the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month (not good days for me). I decided I need to talk with knitters face to face about my intarsia cardigan to see if they could offer any pointers and take a look at the back and see if I'm twisting my yarns right. So, I thought I'd drop in just once... Well, out of the 8 of us, only one woman seemed to even know what I was doing...the others just said, "Oh....ah....how do you do that?" LOL Oh well.... ;-)

Jenn,

This is why I go to the knitting group at my LYS, because there's "professional help" available! Do you have an LYS with a similar resource?

It's always fun to get a good boggle, anyway.

I don't know whether there's a benefit to always twisting the same way or not. I do know that for me, intarsia requires carefuly attention to the tension of the last and first stitches, both when making them and when picking them up again, just like keeping the tension correct at the end or beginning of a row.

Pardon me for butting in here, but have you considered checking out some of the assisted living or nursing homes for retired/semi-retired knitters who might enjoy getting the chance to pass on the art of their craft? Nothing like feeling needed and important by someone to get a lift in your day.

Hi Kathy,

Great suggestion as there are so many living in assisted living know that still want to help others.

Welcome, Kathy. What a great suggestion. But now that you have de-lurked, you should stay and tell us about yourself.

Hi Jenn,

Very nice and you aren't pulling the yarn so tight that it doesn't lay flat. That is one thing that I had to learn to do when I started using more than one color.

Hugs,

Nora

Jenn you remind me of the time i came home to Israel , after 2 years in Boston , where i was ever so lucky to study Weaving in BU , in the PIA . Back at home ,, i found no weavers , but heard there was a Group meeting who wove on frames.... Joined the group , to find i was way more experienced , even from the `teacher` Who was surprised that i could weave in layers !!!! it was hard , but i was `allowed` to join them , If i won`t tell others that i knew more than she !!!! i endured it for the company i lacked ,,,, made some good friends ,,, and left after the 10 yearly meetings ,,,, and went on in life ,,, The teacher still has several folowers, who worship her feet and still make the same `works` they made Ages ago ..... Thus try and make some aquaintances with the Nice persons you might find , but go on and study more ,,,,,,, YOU CAN DO IT !!!! mirjam

Thanks for the story Mirjam. The women were wonderful...very nice....very social. I could probably learn some other things from them. One of the ladies they called The Bag Lady because she makes all types of knitted handbags. I'd love to try my hand at that. Much to my surprise, there were two women there that I had worked with YEARS ago and two different jobs! And they came there together. One I had worked with at a department store and one I had worked with at a fabric store years earlier! (can you hear the Twilight zone theme? ;-) As I said, Mondays are not good for me. One of my son's has karate that night and in order for me to go to knitting club, my husband would have to take both boys to karate. Between homework, showers and dinner...it's a bit much to ask of DH so I can socialize. Though, now that I've gone, I know I'm not missing too much. ;-)

Oh Jenn, i am glad you met nice ladies , and sorry you can`t make it on Mondays. Still you are a young woman , and YOU NEED to socialize Now. This is the time to start connections , for later when the kids are grown. Thus i have an idea , maybe ???? you could talk with your husband to do the driving , instead of you once a month ???? this way you see those ladies , make some connections, and not loose all contact, still as you felt you didn`t gain to much ,,, it might be worth it, maybe the ladies will eventually change their day for you , after they see you want to come but can`t do it regulary ???? mirjam
