Busy Little Torching Bee :-)

I was going to mark this OT, but on further reflection I decided that it's very ON topic.

When I was away last week (seems like it was eons ago already) I tried to assimilate SO much stuff. I had a great day with one of the world's greatest lampwork artists. I spent a day at a FAB supplier and for the first time got to see every kind of glass in person (Art Glass House, very highly recommended by me) and I went to Mr. Beady and got to see the amazing work of many other artists.

I couldn't wait to get home to play with fire. Interestingly, however, once I got home I kept putting it off and putting it off. I was so overwhelmed with new info that I couldn't focus. My mind was racing and I couldn't slow down my brain enough to do ANYTHING.

I played with some of the new techniques I learned and many that I dreamed up while walking on the beach at night (I have an etched/tinted puffy heart that is to DIE for!) but I still didn't turn the torch on.

Finally, yesterday, I played with fire. And boro. OMG what fun!

So here's the point of this post: When you go to a conference or show or somewhere that you are bombarded with a lot of new info, are you able to assimilate/focus when you return home or do you struggle as I have?

I have the same problem Tink. Sometimes I get so jazzed about stuff I can't sit still. It's almost like I'm doing it against my will.

However, once I'm ready my muse taps me on the shoulder and says, "Let's kick some glass a$$!"

I do the same thing with painting. I think some folks just have to let the information soak in and then they can tackle the buttload of ideas they get.

Usually I have a "trickle down" process. Some stuff gets used right away, but other things take time to assimilate. It's cool when, months later (sometimes years, for one class I took) it all starts to come together, and you realize what the source is.

Harry, you're so adorable! I was thinking about you last night, and wishing you could come play on the torch with me. I think you'd love it. You're in Ohio too, right?

< Do you really think I can make those? That would be wonderful if I could. Toledo is right down the road and if I fail to be able to make beads... I might be able to jump on over to Windsor and win enough money to stop by and buy a bunch. lol I do believe this is going to be a lot of fun and I get to learn something, which makes it all the better. :)

Teehee, you're SO not alone!

What cracks me up is coming down, and noticing some injury later. Like the glass splinter in my palm last night. Not a clue when it happened. Or the time I caught a shard on my cheek and Mike came out, stared, said "you know you're bleeding, don't you?" Uh, nooooo, imagine that!
