My wife has run her business with a 1983 vintage single-head Barudan machine driven by an older PC running an early DOS-based version of QDT. After years of consideration, we have recently taken delivery of a "newer" 1995 (6-head) Barudan. This came along with another PC loaded with the EDS editing system but no direct interface from the PC to machine. Since she always operated the machine using the QDT system before, she is trying to learn the ropes on operating the Barudan in its native format now.
We realize that she will now have to transfer designs from the PC to the machine. It's really not much different than before since she did much of her editing work on a newer PC that wasn't directly connected to her current machine.
However, to try and lessen the learning curve somewhat I have checked out the QDT website to see what their current offerings are. I like what I see and think it would be easier for her to pick up if we followed the same set up as with her current machine.
My question is: is there a market for used software? I'm not talking hacks or cheats. I'm talking about buyers of newer versions who no longer utilize their older versions. I'm thinking that since she has been plodding along on a 20+ yr old DOS based version of QDT that it would still be a remarkable improvement if we could find something 10 yrs old that wouldn't cost her $900 to upgrade to the latest and greatest.
