Last stash-y gifting question

What are three things you would think about in selecting a gift for another stitcher? And explain them.....

If I'm gathering a gift for my Mom, I think about her favorite things (other than grandchildren), finding a chart with large symbols and getting her all the bits needed to finish it. I'll include floss, fabric and any finishing supplies.

Next.....

something they collect something they might enjoy and if it would fit into home decor Barbara

If they were adventurous and like me enjoyed learning new and/or innovative things I would go that way. If I knew they were only interested in samplers, or pussy cats, I guess I would go that way.

A lot would depend on how well I knew the person, or if I had an idea of how their home was decorated or the way she dressed or her lifestyle in general.

I can only come up with 2 and both are semi-self explanatory

Might they really want whatever or will it be regifted or stuffed in a closet?

Can they afford to finish a stitched piece?

While hunting for something else, I found Overstocks.com has a huge range of needlecraft items. While the kits didn't interest me, there are all sorts of craft totes and books.

I just looked and found that while they had a lot of different items available, the prices weren't particularly low. You can do better at Joann's on line with a coupon or free shipping.

Of course it's more fun to look for stuff on Overstock.

True - but who'd have thought you'd find any crafty stuff there. I figured it was all fashion and décor....

Nothing surprises me any more. I found a whole bunch of needlework items at Big Lots, including DMC Perle Cotton, a really cute decorative scissors, a pewter pin cushion, a small but decent selection of little cross stitch kits that are nice for gifts and lots of knitting supplies.

Heck, I'm going to go hit Big Lots next time I'm near one. Mind you, that could be a few weeks from now...

You do know it's hit or miss, but such fun when you find something so cheap. Who cares about a little dust? lol

I can find utter dreck there or gems. Found a whole bunch of beads just right for kids crafts. I used to find decent kid toys there. And the odd ball foods were great.

But at the same time, I bought what was labeled as a Hanes top and the way it fell apart, it just couldn't have been.

The last item I bought at Overstocks was a 4 person Eddie Bauer tent, so I don't even think fashion and decor about them.

I've found Overstock.com to be a great place to find books cheaper than either Barnes & Noble or Amazon, and with .99 shipping to boot. That's what I think of when thinking about the big O.

You are the first person I know reasonably well to buy some thing from Overstocks. (I don't count the neighbor with the decorating business that buys tons of stuff from them).

Now - how was the transaction? Would you do business with them again?

I trying decide between them and Amazon for something and Amazon's delivery rep on items other than books is spotty

I bought several inexpensive items from them, mostly silver jewelry, and found the service to be very good. They shipped quickly and when a pair of earrings arrived damaged they took them back and gave me a choice of replacement or full money back. They even reimbursed the shipping because they came damaged.

I don't remember any issues with them other than that they don't always have what I want.

I should add that I have bought shoes and a tent (more recent, nicer screen house for agility) from Amazon and been very happy with their shipping. In fact, the screen house arrived a whole week earlier than I expected it, so I got to use it on a weekend when I was expecting to use the old Bauer.

Fair enough - now it will be down to which item seems like it will work better for me... And DH and DS find what they want.
