OT = snow in the north east!

I left the house at 4:50 AM and drove to hockey, no problems. Got home, no problem. Decided after one try, I'm leaving the truck at the bottom of the driveway.

DH thought, OH I CAN get it up the drive. Got it stuck in the dirt on the far side of the road.

With our neighbors' help, we get it out.

Is that good enough....

NO

10 tries - can't get past the crown and actually gets stuck again in the drive - TWICE....

DOH - there is a reason I just parked it.... C

Now working on a turkey for dinner tonight and then some stitching time...

You make me ashamed of complaining about all the rain we get here. I should be grateful that at least it doesn't ever have to be shoveled. Plus, usually you can see the road so you really have to be wreckless and careless to drive into the muck.

I do hope your turkey is juicy and your stitching is flawless.

Now you have been married long enough to know that the minute he saw the car at the bottom of the drive, it was a challenge!

We are in that eerie stillness now, should start anytime soon, it's moving up through the Province. MissLovesTheWinterSnow up there in NB is going to be really pleased with what she gets lol

Why is it we all have similar stories about DHs?

I thnk I shall just have to visit MissLovesTheWinterSnow in NB! See all the good stuff we have in common? I am trying to decorate the tree, and put the other crap up, but just cannot get in the mood! It is "cold" to these locals..69 degs and bright sun!! It really isn't Christmastime without a bit of frost at the very minimum! Whining again!!

I`ve given all my Christmas "Crap" to my younger daughter - her lights had finally given up the ghost and we don`t have the energy to climb around putting all our boxes of decorations up any more. I`ve even taken down the threads we used to hang our Christmas cards on (They have been up and practically invisible since we moved in) - the cards are all put in a box so we can run through them after Christmas!

Why IS it that as soon as you`ve posted all the cards you remember someone vital that you`d forgotten - despite the list!

Anyway it always seems so dull and depressing after 12th Night, when the "Chrimbo Decs" all come down again!

The grandsons are all grown up and fairly scattered so we send them money - otherwise all parcels are wrapped, most cards sent off, so we have little more to do.

Christmas? Bah Humbug!

All we want for Christmas is Peace and Quiet - a good book, and something decent to watch on the TV. The only son-in-law living close enough to visit has SO many food allergies ( Lactose - meaning ANYTHING to do with anything that moos, and we always have roast beef) plus anything with wheat or nuts in it so it`s easier all round if they feed themselves! He always insists on turkey (which Jane dislikes as much as we do, but he can eat turkey forever with no ill effects) LOL! They come over to see us on Christmas morning anyway. Richard`s on duty, but will come in the New Year and Susan (in the next town) has two of her four sons coming home - the other two are working. There will be lots of phonecalls, then we`ll all just hibernate, once we`ve taken Maggie (the dog) for a walk!

We`ve had plentyof frost lately, Gill, but it`s been beautifully sunny for the past few days, and likely to continue. Lovely out on the field where we go with Maggie.

At the moment, it is 16 degrees out and still dark.

Yesterday, just to make matters worse, I moved the truck for the plow guy to do his thing.

Buried in to the front axles....

Plow guy finished pulling his buddy out, pulled me out, plowed the drive.

DH decides to make another 20 runs at the drive (partially burying it once) and gives up. AFTER I use the bird seed as traction sand. Oh and pulled out the old fertlizer and tried that too.

So, in an hour or so, I'll go move the truck from the bottom of the hill and DH can go to work. (and I'll spread some more of the old fertilizer to add the trip down so that I don't end up on my back again.)

Today the sun will come out and I can park normally. Well, otherwise, the truck will sit at the bottom of the drive again. Most likely tomorrow will do the job, before the next snow arrives on Wednesday. Cheryl

Because they are men?

But the question is, why do they always take it as a challenge when it's something like "I can drive better than you" but never when you try some psychology to get them to prove they can do the cooking/housework better?

Because driving is macho but housework is not.

For some guys, I put the blame on their overindulgent mommies, who thought they were doing them a favor by never teaching them to do it themselves and acted like house staff

Amen to that.

My grandmother looked at her hellions (all boys) and suggested that there was no woman who'd want to marry any of them, and insisted that they learn to cook/clean/mend/iron, because she wouldn't be around forever.

Pretty progressive thinking for the 1930s. And, yes, at some point, every one of them has had to eat his own cooking for a prolonged period, and was grateful not to be reliant on a repertoire limited to hot dogs and scrambled eggs.

So that's why my son does housework and is an excellent cook ! I have never been referred to as an indulgent mommy, far less overindulgent lol

Didja ever hear anyone groan so much as Lucretia - my oh my. :-)) We do have lots of snow, more now than we had for the whole winter last year - it is very pretty for sure. The only thing I don't like about winter is slippery roads and it's a long winding and twisting road out to my place in the country. I don't mind the cold much either as long as I'm bundled up with appropriate clothing. I think it's supposed to be about minus 20C tonight - now if the wind picks up, it will be chillier, but I'll be nice and warm under my fleece sheets, so what do I care? I'll take the cold any day over that horrible humidity in the summer, which brings out bugs and more bugs, and I hate bugs. All the little buggers are frozen now - yay!! :-))

That is the one problem with living in California. The bugs never freeze to death, they just keep multiplying.
