pottery term

I'm trying to think of a word that describes a process used in Wedgwood manufacturing that involves applying a band of low relief decoration around the outside of a vase. The band is prepared in a plaster mold and transferred to the vase. Any help is appreciated. snipped-for-privacy@execpc.com

sprigs? There is another word that starts with " T " but I just can't quite drag it out of the memory.

sprigging i think is the word.

bernard paisley i heard too was one of the 1st guys to do it some several hundred years ago. ~ before he did designs for those classic ties i guess.

he also was one of the 1st to discover the lost wax casting method. he used dead bugs & lizards initially for his casting masters. he'd use casted bugs & lizards as his 1st sprigging designs.

the los angeles metro art musium has some great work from bernard paisley if you ever get the chance to see some.

see ya

I agree with Steve - I would call it sprigging.

A sprig is a plaster negative in which one presses a piece of clay into and joins onto the ware using slip.
