OT: US Trip coming up

DH and I heading to USA next month for 5 weeks. It is going to be an

*adventure* - renting a 19' camper from Cruise America to drive from LA to Boston. Some say 3.5 weeks is a hurried trip but hey, it's alot more time than a 5 hour plane trip so we'll have to see something along the way . Here's an abbreviated itinerary for those you who live along the route and we can wave furiously at you as we pass by or stop for a coffee if timing and inclination suits all. quilt stores will be on the sight seeing list.... LA 12-13 Sept Leave LA 14 Yosemite NP 15-17 Ely Ne 19 Salt Lake City Ne 20 Yellowstone NP 22-25 Sheridan Wy 25 Sturgis/mt Custer NP SD 26-27 Chicago 30-Oct 02 Fredericktown Oh 03 - visiting our John & Lois Niagara 04 Pittsfield Ma 05-06 Boston - NE States 03- 13 NYC 14-21 LA 22

Oh, Bronnie, I'm so sad that you're not coming through Las Vegas! I would have loved to have met you in person. :(

Yes, I'm disappointed as well. We just couldn't take every place in. It will be a very long wave from us both. Another time we'll plan it. Bronnie

Bronnie, I'm in central NJ, just a couple hours south of NYC if you're of a mind or it's convenient. We have a very nice LQS here and I know there are a couple of others that I've not been to between the 2 places that I can get info for you if you'd like. If time and weather permit we might even be able to toss in a balloon ride for you and DH.

If your Sturgis/Custer to Chicago trip takes you via I-90, you will be passing within 10 miles or so of Rochester, MN, where I live. Rochester is on Highway 63, north of I-90. There is a lovely quilt shop called All in Stitches in the small town of Stewartville, less than 5 miles south of I-90 on Hwy 63. Let me know if you might have time for a stop -- maybe a meet-up at the quilt shop.

Only thing I would add is seeing Crazy Horse while you're in SD. Well worth the trip. It's larger than Mt. Rushmore and all them presidents put together!

Not sure, but I just posted....ND instead of SD? It's SD, anyway.

And if you're traveling I-90 across South Dakota, you'll go past Mitchell, about half-way across the state. It's worth a short side trip (no more than a few miles) to see the Corn Palace.

Whew, what a trip! Well, you are passing through my state, Nevada, but I'm at the other end. I've been to Ely. It's a pretty little town.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip!

Best regards, Michelle in Nevada

You will probably be heading right past me on your way to Niagra. If you want to stop for lunch that would be neat, if you want my number in case of emergancy I can do that, otherwise I will be sure to smile and wave.

I don't have a directory at hand. Do we have our phone numbers on it? I don't think so. Maybe those who are near your route could volunteer their phone numbers in case you need anything. You never know what you might need and when. You are heading through some big states. I hope you have time to do a little sightseeing after you reach each destination. I'm always so impressed at your adventurous nature Bronnie!

Thanks Kim, that sounds exciting! We won't have a rental car out of NYC so unless there is a train line or bus to where you are.....let me know. We are in NYC 14-21 Oct. staying at an apartment hotel on Broadway at 75th (Hotel Beacon). In my researching for the trip I have found a quilt show in East Haven on Sunday 18th Oct which I have pencilled in (on the train line). Most of the quilt shows along the way have all finished for the summer. We will have a laptop with us so if you all have my email addy, you can send a mail along the way. We will be on the I-90. The abbrev. itinerary didn't detail all the overnight stops. From Sturgis we stop overnight at Mitchell and then to La Crosse Wi. I'm looking at the road atlas now and see where you are. That would be fun to meet up at Stewartville. Possibly Tues

29th Sept. Bits of the trip are booked and we then hope to keep to the schedule I have mapped out taking into consideration sightseeing, breaks (LQSs), road conditions etc. The camper (and us) have to be in Boston on Oct 7th. Thanks Julia! Just shoot me an email a few days before if you would be so kind and we will see how the timing is going. snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com On a previous trip to the US (Paducah 05) I met up with a group of rctq'ers which was great fun. Yes Donna, Crazy Horse is on the schedule, Deadwood, Devils Tower Monument. I only detailed an abbrev. itinerary for the general route we are taking. We have a couple of days in that area. Thanks, Bron
