This coming weeks adventure in sewing

My 7 1/2 yo DDG has been after me to teach her how to make a skirt. I'll be staying at her house a few days since her baby sister has to have some ear surgery done. I picked up some denim today with a small scattered apple embroidered on it.(It's in the washing machine right now doing it's washing thing.) I told her we would do a single flat fell back seam and elastic waistband. She's thrilled to have a chance to make her own skirt. I think it should be fun for Gramma as well. Juno

When I spoke to her mom tonight,(my DD)she said that DGD has been telling everyone at school that Gramma is going to teach her how to make a skirt.I've got the machine packed and ready to go. I think I'm a psyched up as she is. Juno

I'm sure it will be great fun for you both, AND she'll have bragging rights at school: "What, this old thing, I made it..." ;-)

Enjoy!

She's the kind of child who needs a few bragging rights. She has lots of friends but she tends to be rather quiet. Anything to make her feel extra important and bring her out a bit more I can't think of a better way for her. Juno

More reason it's wonderful that you are able to do this with her. I hope you have lots of pleasure, and she enjoys the experience.

Thank you,but not really. I just enjoy my 9 grandchildren as much as I enjoyed my 4 children. If I have something they want to learn, I'm flattered that they ask me to teach them. Juno

The skirt is finished and looks good. She did 95% of the work. I ran the elastic in the waist because she was having a few problems with it. Other than that. DGD did an excellent sewing and pressing job. It was a hectic couple of days. Baby sister ended up having her tonsils and Adenoids out as well as the ear surgery. Yesterday was Mom and Dad anniversary so we told them to go out to dinner and relax for a little while. Baby, who's not really a baby, but three didn't want to eat or drink all day fell asleep in her poppa's arms work up about 9 PM and started drinking up a storm. Grandma was very relieved. Home now and ready to relax for an hour or 2. Juno

Oh wonderful!! I'm so proud of her and glad that you could do that with her.

And having been through the tubes, tonsils, adenoids surgery a year ago with my "baby" (who was 10 at the time) I'm sure Mom & Dad were delighted to have you and Poppa there!! That surgery is no fun at all for everyone in the family. :( Glad she did well.
