Today was a good sewing day

After the aggravation yesterday with the Towne Purse, I put in the bag and really did put it on the bottom of the pile. Today I mentioned to DH that I was in need of some summer skirts. He wanted to take me shopping for some. I told him there was no way I was buying skirts, I'd make them. So we drove down to Holly Lobby and I picked up 3 pieces of cotton print. One has butterflies, one is a small paisley and the third is a stylized flower looks kind of like a child's flower drawing. Washed everything, pressed the butterflies, cut it out and sewed it up on the serger. Tomorrow I'll hem it and probably do the other 2 over the weekend. The pattern was a free download from Fabric.Com. It's called a Bossa Nova skirt. 8 gores and easy as pie. I feel a lot better today having accomplished something I'm happy with. Juno

I would find it so difficult to live in an area that is so hot. We get a couple of weeks of bad weather and I'm done in. I've been this way most of my life. DH doesn't feel the heat much but he does understand how it makes me feel.Yesterday he played 18 holes of golf. Today he did his 5.5 mile walk and then played 9 holes of golf this afternoon, late. I'd be in the ER if I tried even one of those activities. Juno

Juno, I read your post out to my dh and he laughed. He has heard me so often flatly refuse to "pay that kind of money for a simple skirt!!"

My DH is not big on "fixing." His answer usually is lets run down to.... and buy you one. I keep telling him I'm have a lot more fun choosing fabric and making it myself. I get a lot of satisfaction from the sewing process, from start to finish. Sometimes it sets me back a little but, I'm not one to give up.

Glad you found it. I think it's very versatile and will make up well in any fabric. it's also nice and airy for the hot weather. For years I wore skirts in the summer, then switched to shorts, now I'm back to skirts. I find them very comfortable. Juno

I forgot to mention that the pattern called for 5/8 seams. Since I knew I was going to do it on my serger I worked out the size difference and made it 2sizes smaller and used 1/4 inch seams.I used a light weight cotton fabric and didn't want a wide seam. Juno

Thank you, Juno. I am so happy you posted the name of the skirt; I've wanted to make some for myself to wear while shopping and/or doctor visits, as well as a couple for my DGD when she starts teaching again this fall, it is hot in Orlando for a while after school starts. Emily

Sounds like me, Juno! That's why DS in SC talked me into not going to visit yet. He says 99-degrees there is much diffent from here. I am so disappointed not seeing the girls till later in the year, but I did get their measurements so the clothes will fit properly when I send them. Emily

Thanks Juno & Beverly now I've saved that pattern too. I need to make up some simple easy care skirts for myself. Have you tried it in a jersey fabric at all Juno? I like jersey for travelling as it only needs to be hung up on arrival to relax.

I have a bit of a fear of jersey. It is completely unfounded in reality. When I first started sewing knits,a long time ago I used them all the time, in recent years I haven't touched a piece of jersey. I know it's irrational and I just have to do it. Maybe I'll give it a run. what have I got to lose except this silly fear. I think it would be great in jersey. Lots nice drape, comfortable and packs well,as you say. Let me know how it comes out for you, Lizzy Juno
