Re: Quilt Tree

Based on your limited explanation, I expect you've been dragged into participating in the fabric version of a chain letter. Many well-meaning people pass these on to others they know. Bottom line: unless you're at the very top, the math doesn't work. Ever.

4x4= 16 16x4=64 64x4=256 256x4=1024 1024x4=4096 4096x4=16,384 16,384x4=65,536

As you can see, the numbers grow quickly with each succeeding generation. And of course, they grow much faster if each person is expected to mail to more than four people. (Remember the old riddle, "Would you rather have a million dollars now or have a dime now and have your money double every day for a year?"?)

You probably won't get any takers from this ng, as most of us have already been exposed--and some of us burned. :(

On the other hand, we have a number of SWAPS going on that we'd be glad to have you take part in! In a centralized swap, you're guaranteed to get your "investment" back. In some non-centralized swaps, the hostess will make good when a swap partner fails to reciprocate. All in all, a much better arrangement, don't you think? :)

Mel: Actually, in the USA, a dollar is 100 cents, a dime is 10 cents, and a nickel is 5 cents. That is why the book with 5" charms uses the term Nickel Quilts. In my little quilt group we swap strips of 5" by 22" fabric in a designated color. We bring 8 to meeting and go home with 8. Usually about 13 people participate. We started in January for 6 months, but liked it so much we selected colors for the rest of the year! This time wd didd red. IMO this swap is great for any small group and certainly better than a chain set up.
