insuring your home based business.

Anyone have an agent that insures their home based business? My agency, Allstate, considers woodturning manufacturing , and won't insure it unless it is on commercial property. Since my "studio" is my attached two car garage in a residential neighborhood, they have dropped coverage of my shop from the homeowners policy but won't insure it either. I am looking for the usual fire/theft and product liability. I have talked with a few commercial insurance brokers, but they can't find anything either.

I went through that aswell with Alstate, I never did find anyone who would insure my studio... I was assured that by many, that if I could find someone to cover it, it would cost me...... I know that don't help you any..... Ken....

Hi Steve,

I found the following through my membership in the ACC (American Craft Council), but I don't know if you need to join to be legible.

Ohio Casualty Group - and the rep is Hilb Rogal & Hamilton Co of CT

860-278-1320

I insure not only my shop, but have liability protection for my booth when I do craft shows.

Steve, I have my home busisness insured by Country Companies. I live in Central Illinois and don't know how far they reach out. I had to join The Illinois Farm Bureau to buy the insurance. They have a basic rate, then adjust based on my gross yearly income.
