What's on your (quilt-related) Christmas list?

What kind of quilt-related things are you asking for or hoping that you get this holiday season? There isn't much that I need and I've got about as much fabric as I have room for, but I have asked for a bunch of the Essential Thread from Connecting Threads. I have also asked for a renewal of my Love of Quilting subscription or a subscription to Quilter's Home. The spring in my Fiskars spring-loaded shears broke a couple days ago, but I can't wait for Christmas to have that replaced -- too much sewing to do between now and then -- so I went to JoAnn's yesterday and bought a new one. (All scissors were 40% off so was going to use the 40% coupon on a magazine, but those were on sale for 10% off so ended up using the coupon on a small notion; they put so much stuff on sale that's it hard to really save much on anything with the coupon much of the time.)

So what's on your list?

I only asked for a couple of quilty things: 4" Gingher embroidery scissors and a gift certificate to the LQS. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the scissors, because Mom was asking if she could get them at Michael's where she could use her coupon!

Don't need a darned thing.... don't want anything. What I need is talent. Absent that, inspiration and hard work on my part would be good. Right now, I'm thinking it will be after Christmas before I get back into my sewing room for much.

Julia, I'd call Fiskars, if I were you. The spring in my little thread snips broke a couple of years ago, and they sent me a new one. They also sent me a new rotary cutter when the spring in that broke at one point. Their customer service has impressed me. I know you've already replaced your scissors, but a back-up pair wouldn't be a bad thing. :)

As for what I want for Christmas, I'm really hoping for a wine "cellar"

-- one of those refrigerator-like things that keeps wine at the right temperature. Yes, it *is* quilt-related, since there are times when quilters absolutely need wine to figure out a solution to a problem. LOL!

Other than that, I'm hoping DH will give me $$ for me to save toward my next trip to camp in the summer! :)

I e-mailed Fiskars service yesterday and am waiting to hear. I'm hoping that they will replace the spring. I've had the old ones at least 5 years, so they have served me well. I bought the new ones because I need them now. Having two pair would be no problem.

I gotta get a better thrift store. The Goodwill here has mostly junk. I haven't seen a thing yet that I would buy.

My iron is antique -- well, the cord is cloth so I'm assuming it's fairly old. Still, it works well. Did have a spritzer thing (hand operated) for steaming but that part leaked so I unscrewed and tossed it. It's a good weight for me, has a nice long cord and is small too. Some of those old irons weigh a ton, and others (newer) don't seem heavy enough. Mine's just perfect! :)

I don't mind doing it. I love the smell of warm cotton.

Last week on a vacation at the Mall of America, my husband was looking at all the jewelry stores and asked "Would you like to look for your anniv. present now?". I said "No. What I really want for Christmas and anniv. is a home quilting frame and machine." He said that sounds like a good idea. Wow. I probably would have gotten jewelry for about $200-500. Now I am getting a Little Gracie 2 with a Juki machine - about $1200. We looked at the Gracie yesterday at an LQS and decided it was a go. Now I've got to find the machine to go with it. I am really excited and feel very blessed!!

What? Where? Is it almost Christmas again? Guess I'll make my annual Xmas eve trip to the local Wally World and find something. :-) Frank Reid

Yeah, I'm with Sandy. I emailed Fiskar about the slide that holds my pinking shears closed. It had broken, just snapped. They sent me two new ones and they were easy as pie to replace.

I told Santa Claus that I wanted a metal detector for Christmas. I love being in my sewing room more than anything, but if I don't have to go anywhere, I will stay in there 20 hours a day.

I need something to make me go outside. Last summer the pool did it, but if it's not pool weather, which is most of the time, then I need something else to pry me out.

I've never had a metal detector before, never even seen one work, I just think I might find it interesting. I'm not looking for fortunes, but there are a lot of old coal mines in my area and maybe I could find some neat old stuff. There were also some minor (yeah, to ME) Civil war era skirmishes along the Kansas/Missouri border that I think would be neat to explore.

So we'll see. If nothing else, I will get some fresh air.

It seems to be the same weight as my old iron and I love the no nonsense look of it. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Lucky you. You must have a really nice thrift store. Ours doesn't even accept small appliances as donations any more because the ones the would get were often either worn out or damaged. Debra in VA See my quilts at
