Scored a Cricut!

So I gifted myself with a new Black Friday doorbuster cricut. Now on to amassing cartridges for it. Does anyone know of good places known to sell the carts for reasonable prices and/or used ones?

Me too! Except I got mine on Thursday (Thanksgiving Day) Doorbuster at Big Lots, a Cricut Create for $99. Heard from a scrapping friend on FB later that day that Michael's had a bunch of cartridges on sale (60% I believe) so Maya and I went over on Friday morning and I got 5 for about $200--DH doesn't mind, it's all still cheaper than new jewelry, PLUS he doesn't have to mess with it! LOL. Christmas shopping for wife: done. ;-)

What kind of Cricut did you get? My friend's advice was to get some font cartridges first to practice getting used to the Cricut, but I also got a few of the die cut ones:

"Opposites Attract" "United We Stand" "Lyrical Letters" "A Child's Year" "Pooh Font Set"

Haven't had a chance to play with any of them yet, just finished my Christmas shopping and Maya and I are doing some political stuff (met Gov. Mike Huckabee last Friday, hoping to meet Gov. Sarah Palin this Friday after a long drawn out soap opera!) and I don't even have any idea if we are even going to put up the tree this year since the twins are mobile and into EVERYTHING. ;-) But when some time frees up, it'll be Mama's turn to play!

Lucky!! If I had known that the Big Lots one was a Create, I might've tried to get it! Instead, I opted for the personal one that Joann's offered for $74.88. I got it online, so I haven't received it yet. I went out and got the Jasmine font cartridge but none of the shapes carts yet. I really like the new Paisley and Serenade that just came out. I thought about getting A Child's Year. My daughter Maya is 17 months old, so I thought that one would get a lot of usage. Currently I've been working on scrapping her first year so the New Arrival would also be good to have. The sales on carts this weekend were great -- I'm hoping they go that low again before Christmas.

LOL, I'm still scrapping my Maya's first year--and she's 9 now! I can see me at 90 in the nursing home, working with the cricut and drinking prune juice! ;-)

LOL. I've been working on my Maya's first year since she was born -- I've only got 4 pages finished! I always seem to be missing just one more thing for the page. Having my own cricut will help so now I don't have to find someone else that owns one in order to scrap.

I haven't shopped at Big Lots in years since the one closest to me closed. Do they usually sell a lot of scrapbooking/cricut things? Is it worthwhile to make the half hour trip to the next closest one? Do they stock carts?

It's definitely going to be hard to restrain myself from going all out and spending money on carts like a madwoman!

I'm thinking if you are gonna be drinking prune juice while you are working, you wont be able to get much work done...LOL

Our Big Lots ALWAYS has a scrapbook section, with all kinds of brand name stuff (hit and miss) sometimes Jolene stickers, sometimes punches they always have albums, some asst papers, etc. Every once in awhile you find tools there, for cheap--I got my larger Xyron machine there for $10, and a small laminator for the same price. Worth it to me!

Wow! I'm definitely going to have to make a side trip there TODAY. My cricut came this morning at 8:05am. I was almost hesitant to answer the knock on my door. I had checked my online account yesterday, and it never said anything about it being shipped yet. I had used a discount code for free standard shipping -- it arrived via FedEx! I haven't taken it out of the box yet. I've been letting the excitement build. LOL

Now to get the tool kit, some vinyl stuff to put a stencil on my daughter's room, the Paisley and Serenade carts, the list goes on!

I got my tool kit the next day at Michael's, got some pink vinyl stuff for my daughter's room too! Wanted the Paisley and Serenade, but they were sold out of those!

Haven't opened mine either--just ordered a few more from Jo-Ann's, man those move fast! While I was checking out 2 of the cartridges I'd selected went 'out of stock' and were deleted from my order! :-O Still, managed to snag one with soccer stuff, so I'm happy.
