Autism ?

A while back I was inquiring about making weighted blankets for my autistic nephews, (which I did.) Someone mentioned certain fundraising for autism groups to be wary of, but I can't remember the names . Does this ring a bell? Judy

CAN or DAN: Cure Autism Now or Defeat Autism Now. please do not donate to *any* group that wants to "cure" autism. there are groups who work to assist autistics to develop to their potential, but don't find it necessary to force them to act neurotypical (which is a huge strain on our internal resources). lee

Lee, this is OT, as is your quote above, but I must respond to it, having read much about John Adams, including David McCullough's wonderful book about him. Knowing how profoundly Christian John Adams and wife Abigail was, I fear you do him a disservice by the small quote you posted above. I add some additional quotation for perspective:

"John Adams, America's second president and the same one who signed and sent the Treaty of Tripoli to the Senate, just one year later delivered these words in a military address Oct. 11, 1798, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

"And to what religion is Adams referring? He gave us an answer when he wrote Thomas Jefferson June 28, 1813, "The general principles on which the Fathers achieved independence were the only Principles in which that beautiful Assembly of young Gentlemen could Unite. ... And what were these general Principles? I answer, the general Principles of Christianity, in which all these Sects were united."

I don't want to turn this newsgroup into a religious discussion,I can't abide the distortion. Sharon

Thank you, Sharon, for posting more on the Adam's quote. I often see quotes in sig lines and shake my head, knowing the poster never looked into it more, they simply grabbed text they wanted by someone famous.

You might want to review the source.

Oh yes you do--- or you would not have attempted to burden the group with a *3 paragraph* relentlessly stupid, propaganda attack on someone's sig line of all things.

Abide this: Next time you get a wingnut hair up your silly, religionist ass over someone's sig line, I suggest you go to the library and actually read something intelligent on the US Constitution instead of trying to peddle that WorldNutDaily dominionist tripe. And if you're so hot for a government that tells you how, when and where to pray, maybe you should subscribe to alt.religion.islam so you can get a great big dose of Shariah law. And now you've earned a place in my permanent killfile reserved exclusively for ignorant, preachy, hypocritical gasbags.
