Newbie

Hello, thought I'd take this opportunity to introduce myself, been lurking on here for a while (and picked up some fabulous tips, which have made my sewing experience much easier).. Got a couple of projects I am having a go at, cut out my pieces for my betsy ross skirt (in red cotton with huge polka dots on, pretty) and am eyeing an old pair of curtains lying in my stash and wondering whether I can utilise the interfacing at the top to make the whole lot into a tote bag (thick brocade- like cream colour with embossed swirls). Oh and I'm Kitty, a mid thirties aged housewife with 2 dc's. Not particularly experience with the sewing, although I'm a demon with a pair of knitting needles and a crochet hook. Regards Kitty

Welcome! Glad we could help you.

Your fabric sounds lovely. I love big polka dots!

For the tote, I'd forget the interfacing and just use the fabric and the lining, especially if the interlining is just a narrow band of stiff stuff at the top where the hooks are.

Experience will come! you have kids to sew for...

All that happens when get together with yarn and knitting needles or crochet hooks is a mad tangle where they become inextricable entangled with my thumbs and I need rescuing by a third party...

Click on Kate's Pages and explore!Oh Thanks for the quick reply, have got to pick up dd from nursery ina min so shan't be back till this evening but, have been looking atthat curtain and thinking I can cut off the top interfacing and stillhave enough for three bags, one large tote and two smaller ones.Ideally I'd love to have enough of that fabric to make one of those60's type swing jackets with a large button but, not brave enough totry that yet, and it wouldn't stretch anyway.Sorry, but,lol at your comment about knitting just gives me visions ofsomeone fighting their way out of a tangle of wool!! ;-)Looking forward to finishing my skirt.Kitty.

Lol, at that, perhaps I should have put dk (kittens), not sure ds would be amused (stroppy teen) as he's a good 5 inches taller than me!!

My 12 YO is 2 " taller than me. He just pats me on the head and says 'Little mummy!' and flashes the dimples at me when I call him 'Little one' these days! :D
