OT: finally pictures of the wedding dresses

FINALLY!! a rather blurry picture of the wedding dresses that I made in

3 weeks. I hope to get a decent one in the near future, but at least you can see what they basically turned out like.

picture isn't that great because it was emailed to me. Haven't gotten gotten any REAL pictures, even though wedding was over a month ago and I bought one of the cameras (photographers lens broke and they were relying on the guests that had digitals or disposables!)

Larisa

P.S. Pattern used was McCalls 3883. The bride was in champagne crepe back satin (satin back crepe?) and had the satin side out, the girls were in burgundy crepe. The one that refuses to pay is on the far left. We are going to be pursuing legal action if she doesn't follow the agreement made this afternoon.

They look good, Larisa! But why is that one girl refusing to pay? Does she think you donated the work and supplies for the mere pleasure of it? ;S

ROTFL! That sounds like a Laurel and Hardy style wedding, like one lady I used to work with B.C. (before children) who had what I called The Wedding that Jack Built -- she was marrying the guy she had lived with for about five years and finally wanted the big wedding and honeymoon thing (don't ask me why -- it's beyond my personal comprehension) and she couldn't afford a nice place for the reception, so she asked her dad, who she hadn't talked to in years but who was a navy officer, if she could use the ritzy officer's club on a local naval installation for the reception, and he said that was okay but that if she was having it there, he wanted to give her away (so much for the very-involved stepfather giving her away). Then they couldn't afford the Carribbean cruise they wanted for their honeymoon (this is CAlifornia so there was plane fare to consider on top of it all) so she was going to take out a loan and put her MGB/GT up for collateral, but it had engine problems and they wouldn't take it as collateral, so she had to find a way to borrow money to get her car fixed so she could use it for collateral to get the loan for the honeymoon. And it went on from there. We all just shook our heads.

SHe's refusing to pay because she is a *VERY* immature 24yo who thinks she deserves to be given everything in life. Her father just kicked her out because he was tired of her partying every night (or whatever) and she has told me, nearly every week now, that she will get the money to me in a week or 2 weeks, because she "has a lot of shit going on in her life". Basically, she has said that the dress is the farthest thing from her mind, that she completely forgot about it (guess she completely forgot about her brother getting married and the bride being nice and asking her to be in the wedding, as well). DH made an agreement with her that she would pay $5 or more every week until her debt is paid off, and the first week we didn't get paid, legal paperwork would be filed. The other option is that she get the dress back to me and i would sell it on ebay, with the complete (if edited) story about it.

Basically, she's an obnoxious brat who isn't responsible enough to handle her own debts. SHe says she works 60 hours a week, she lives in a cheap apartment, so why doesn't she have the money by now?? wedding was over a month ago

Larisa, totally ticked off, but go> >

I guess I'm too cynical. I would never have made the dress in the first place without payment in advance. Sure hope you get your money back.

Yep, one of the surest ways to get treated like a professional is to act like one. And this includes materials deposits, contracts and not letting merchandise out the door without payment. How many businesses do any of you know that will say... go ahead and take it home, you can pay me later? Not too many.

Nice of them to provide you with proof that she took the dress and it's been worn.

$5/week is truly pathetic. What's the total charge?

YOu know, Penny, you are always the negative nagging voice here. I normally do have a deposit, a wirrten contract, etc. This was a job for a friend, on a limited budget and with very little time. The fact that she chose someone totally unreliable is her business, but since that person has refused to pay, it has now become my business.

I resent the fact that you are implying that I am not a professional, you don't even know me.

In my opinion, Penny _is_ treating you as a professional. She would not tell an amateur to get contracts and payment before letting anything out of their shop. You did not behave professionally and that is why you have this problem. Also, I think you need to tell your husband to butt out of your business dealings. I doubt he would appreciate you telling him how to run his office or deal with his clientele. You can support each other by listening and encouraging, but never get into detailed "advice" or "instruction."

She was clearly picked for the role in order to make the pregnant bride look skinny. And yes, you can quote me ;) (Miaow ... scratch ... hiss ... pass the saucer of milk)

Nice frocks - but nothing will ever make me like crepe-backed satin LOL!

Wearing a bra would not have hurt. The dress, anyway.

Oh, ho. That reminds me of something I heard about a year after I was fired as a bridesmaid. Was told later by the guy who does my hair, that another bridesmaid told him I was fired because I was better looking than the others. (I never got repaid for that dress either, but some things just aren't worth the fight.)

I didn't "hear" that at all ... I heard one RCTQr trying to help another with some suggestions.

I told them they needed to get bras....when I got there to help with any last minute adjustments, the bridesmaids were taping themselves in place with duct tape!!! I just rolled my eyes and thanked them for displaying my sewing to its advantage...the bride was able to find a bra to hold her in place decently....still..... I should have seen the bralessness coming...one of MY bridesmaids couldn't be bothered to get a bra either....then again, *all* my attendants were larger than me, so what difference did it really make? (and no, they weren't chosen to make me look skinny - mother was honor attendant, godmother was an attendant, and a friend was my last attendant...they all just happened to be bigger).

Oh for heaven's sake - these are supposed to be grown women! Are none of them capable of acting their age rather than their shoe size? Let's just hope none of them are ever allowed to breed ...
