PING: Kate (About corsets!)

Where do you buy your corset fittings from? I need 1/4" steel boning, a busk and corset lacing pronto! Does anyone know if the Ladies Victorian Underwear corset from Laughing Moon will be decent enough to wear as outerwear? I have a friends birthday party in a few weeks and I really want to wear a corset! This is the pattern I have at the moment. Also, should I use metal eyelets or the eyelet stitch on my sewing machine?

Charlie.

do kits, supplies, patterns... the lot! :) Not ordered yet, but they look good.

I hear good things about the Laughing Moon pattern, and the Simplicity one is also supposed to be good. Either is good enough for outer wear, if you make it out of the right fabric. Take a look at some of the examples on the site.

The eyelet pattern built into sewing machines is for decorative use only (for 'eyelet lace' patterns). Go look at how I did mine on the machine, on both the Wench Kit and the Corset Works pages on my site. Unfortunately, Pfaff and Husqvarna appear to be the only people currently making an eyelet plate: you may be able to get one and bodge a fit for your machine.
