Ping @ Kate

Hello Kate,

how is your hip doing? Is it bursitis? And what are they/you doing about it? I hope that you are better by now.

And what about the iron? Have you decided for one, yet? And if, which one, and is it already there and how does it work?

U. - had a lazy day today, with a holiday today. Nice to spend the whole day at home, although I didn't sew a single stitch.

Still awaiting the results of the x-ray. Not hurting too much at the moment, but I've been being careful... Mind you, the back and sciatical are having a ball!

I'm almost decided on the Bosch, and was awaiting payday!

I made a toile!

Sybarite, you! (But seriously: get better a.s.a.p.!)

We may trust that you'll tell us all about it, then. Or - When's payday? ;-)

Aw, c'mon, toile for what? Don't let us die of curiosity! ;-)

Got the heat pack on my lower back today.

Day before yesterday! We cleared enough in the bank to have September's payday. :D That's the trouble with working for yourself: sometimes you don't get payday!

Margaret Layton's Jacket!

NOT a complete copy. We're using a pre-embroidered fabric. I will do a dress diary later.

Ans Su started toiling a version of this for the same customer: >

In addition, we have a slashed doublet, Venetian slops, and a shirt with a big Cavalier collar and cuffs for another for the same event, and an unknown exactly what for a third, all for the same event! Then we have the stuff WE want... And Su's other half's stuff. Tat's all for half way through February.

But for this month we have two big Christmas project costumes and possibly bits for a third. They have to be complete by 30th October, and the rush is due to the daft thing ordering them not getting her skates on.

No need to tell me; Eric the Viking is self-employed, as you know, and three years or so ago he was ready to give up the business since there was no work coming in. Fortunately, this year has been much better, but, yes, I know exactly what you mean.

Wow, I was so impressed when saw the whole thing. Imagine, the very same jacket she wore when she sat for the painting! I wonder how they came to preserve that particular piece of clothing. It's a very pretty jacket, to be sure, and not cheap, either, and I can imagine that it had been perhaps her favourite. I also read a bit around google and found that the two items had been in possession of the family until they went to the museum, but still... What an amazing coincidence.

Hmm, I wonder if the King Tut discoverer is related to that lady... Anyway, a very pretty dress. Do I see a hint of areolas next to the neckline? Does the customer want her neckline as low?

I see... and what do you want? LARP stuff or RW wardrobe? I had planned to finish all my UFOs, including DD's dress (from your hands) which she had outgrown. And of course the Not-Loes-Hinse-jacket. But now I feel rather inclined to make a quilt with Cars on it. And I started a knitted hood, fortunately in very thick wool with No. 8.5 needles.

Mind you, today was Dutch-German Fabric Market in Dortmund, and I went with Jennifer, the Cosplay Girl. (I call her girl here since, although she has two kids, she's barely more than a kid herself to me. Isn't 24 young?) Anyway, we got so wet even though we had dressed properly for the torrential rain (I had my rain cape from the outdoor outfitters on); however, I'm not really complaining: Since looking around was hardly fun, I didn't spend as much as I had feared I would. I got some more scraps for the Cars quilt, some other material packs with pastel shaded madras fabric for another quilt I'm planning to make, two fine corduroy fabrics in denim blue and dark plum for two more over thingies for me, and blue taffeta lining for the Not-Loes-Hinse-jacket. Oh, and I got blades for my rotary cutter for EUR 5.- a piece, which I thought wasn't bad so I got three. I wonder if 4.03 Pounds is a good price; certainly less than you pay around here in most shops, including the internet where they are EUR 7.95/6.42 Pounds. And swore to myself to never ever again leave the blade uncovered when dropping the danged cutter off my table.

Yeah well, it's always like that, isn't it? I think Jennifer learned her lesson; we are hooked up for a regular day for sewing now, and her next project is a simple skirt for herself, for everyday wear. All other Cosplay projects are for May 2013 or later. Anyway, it looks like your business is quite flourishing. Great! I wish I could be part of it (you'd see that my skills and speed in sewing have increased a lot since the days of the wedding dress), but I'm so far away... Maybe one day I'll open my own business like that with somebody. Or I'll be a famous writer... ;-> Yes, it's OK for you to laugh right out loud, I won't be miffed. ;-)

Anyway, have a good time with your partner in crime, Su, and take care of your health. DH and I have the weekend off: DD is staying with DSIL for the weekend and we'll go out for dinner tonight. And we'll sleep till noon tomorrow, at least... ;-) Yes, I know, they grow so fast, and I should enjoy the time when they are still little. I do, but sometimes I need some time off from enjoying. Give my love to a-LAN the Man and the GMNT.

It is very beautiful. A bunch of folk in the USA did a complete hand worked reproduction recently. Google The Plymouth Jacket. It's a fab bit of research and work, but it took a whole bunch of them three years. We have a couple of months in working time!

Yes, I believe he was...

And you are right, it WAS that low! I don't think the cusomer is totally dedicated to historical accuracy to that level, but we don't mind if she is!

I need a day gown in black, and a ball gown.

I remember those markets... Sigh...

No, just cheer you on!

We are clearing the sewing room for that giant... Turns into his bedroom this week!

Try searching "Plimoth jacket" and "Faith" -- I tried "Plymouth" and "Plymoth" awhile back without much luck, so thought I'd help save some searching. Might want to start with:
