Sewing Insanity

I think it's contagious...Kate mentioned all of her projects that she had going on, then Sharon mentioned all of hers....It's spreading, like wildfire!!!

I had planned on making a summer wardrobe for DD following the guidelines for the Timmel SWAP (can't remember the website right now). Not a big thing, just 11 pieces that coordinate. Now DS also needs some new shorts - not a big thing and HE picked out the fabric he wants me to use (they will be athletic shorts - meshy fabric with a lining so nobody sees that he still wears Scooby underwear ). Talked with SIL yesterday so that I could let her know about the summer school program that my children, and now her daughter will be doing with me and she mentioned that DN has grown so much that she doesn't have a lot of jeans that fit her - they will be turned into shorts. Well.....she also said that DN didn't really have many summer clothes that still fit (see where this is going??). Before the brain had a chance to fire a warning shot, I heard myself saying that I would make her some clothes for the summer....also following the Timmel SWAP...yikes!!

So....grand total in clothing that is planned (no true deadline, but I'd like to be finished with some of it before she gets here) 22 planned pieces for the girls, not sure how many pairs of shorts for DS...need to go through his dresser to see what he has (how many pairs that should have been cleared out a while ago, how many actually fit him).

I'm thinking it will be about 30 pieces of apparel in the end.....if I find a TNT pattern I can whip things out in no time.

Not to worry, I will post pictures when things are done, and probably ones of me with thread all over the place...lol

should take you to the tentative storyboard for DDs summerwardrobe. I haven't made one up for DN yet.

Hah! I made a Maypole last Saturday. No-sew, ribbons from stash.

(And on Tues I found the perfect base: a thrift's Xmas tree stand. All set for next time.)

Well, I have 2 of DDs tops finished and will hopefully finish the first pair of panties/bloomers to go with them. I think tomororw I will work on her sundress, but haven't decided that 100%.

Tonight, while watching survivor, I will start handsewing the bidning down on the monster quilt. Might be working with a friend tomorrow to finish up the last of the quilts, but again, not 100% on that - she has company and might not get all her "stuff" done.

Phew!

You're doing well!

Right, I may as well put me update in here...

This wee I have:

Finished the hems and sleeves on two customer Garden Frocks... Sewed 4 buttonholes and the skirt side seams on another frock project... Read the paper every day! Made 42 mugs of tea or coffee - each day! Or so it seems... The dishwasher is full of mugs again! Tried to keep out of the way of the wallpapering chaps... Failed to go swimming due to hormones (roll on the menopause is all I can say to that!) Played a LOT of music! Yelled at James for crashing my news forums and bookmarks! It has taken his dad several hours to sort out...

Now all the papering is finished, and as soon as the plumbers have reinstated the radiator that is floating round the bathroom, I can get on with cleaning the book case and refilling it with three times my weight in large format books and contemplating repainting the woodwork while I ponder the merits of tab top versus eyelet top lilac curtains for the landing. I'm thinking I might sew them on the treadle, just for fun! :D

I need to alter a dress toile for Monday, and make a voile jacket toile... That and the painting/book case filling should keep me out of mischief!

Today I didn't get as much done, but we ALL need to take a break every now and then. I *did* get to the Home Depot to check out some carpeting possibilities as well as new pavers for the front step and flowers for the empty mulch bed (don't ask).

I *did* get the casings done on DD's bloomers and I managed to cut out

2 more outfits for her (one is a top and shorts in a cherries on green background print, the other is a delicate purple flowers on white sundress).

That's it...all that I've gotten done today...will do more hand sewing tonight and will probably cut out more clothing tonight as well....taking it slow. I *know* I will get a lot of sewing next week....I'll be up late nearly every night so I may as well be productive.

I'm guessing it was her reaction to someone getting

*Christmas stuff* in *May*, but maybe she'll pop in and answer. ;->

Pbbt because I WISH my projects were something that a) were relatively easy, and b) ALL came from stash . I'm in the hole this month for fabrics and such - won't be able to purchase anything else for at least a month, maybe 2 at the rate things are going.

OK, just about finished my first-ever 50's poodle skirt. Good thing this is a regular topic on this NG. I used one of my circle skirt patterns (stash) and purple felt picked up at soon-to-close Hancock.

Actually, I am making two of them; local Red Hatters are convening next weekend for a 50's bach (Elvis will be in the building) and it's easy to make two. My sis Connie gets the poodle one, and mine will have...a 1950's cruiser girl's bike!

For the poodle design, I found some free clip art, enlarged on a copier. used some ivory felt (left over from a holiday project) and some great loopy poodly stuff from TSWLTH's clearance racks. I made a red hat for the doggie. All it needs to complete is the dog's leash (I might use red sequins all the way around the skirt).

For the bike, I'll crochet the wheels, then add felt pieces. Trying to think of what I can use as the circumference decoration...a roadway? Yep, I will put streamers on the handlebars, and a cool basket.

Nice to be so far ahead of a deadline. This full-time work stuff obviates a lot of my sewing fun.

That sounds massively fun! For the leash on a poodle skirt I made my niece a few years back, I used the pre-strung sequins and just sewed them on with the sewing machine. Quick and dirty, but it got the job done. I love the bicycle idea!

Red sequins is what I have. With the stitch length set to its longest setting, I just about hit the holes in each sequin. Planning to make the leash take a few loops as it travels around the skirt.

In Red Hat circles I am known as the Princess of Wheels, and I do wacky things like ride to close-by events (or *in* them, in the case of parades).

For a top, I have a big polka-dot blouse (from a thrift, $2) and it just happens to match what you see (on the tube) during the mountain stages in some sort of French multi-week sporting event.
