One of the best parties I ever went to (back in the day, you understand) was an excuse to wear the ugliest bridesmaid dress you had in your closet - and trash it, as you could never wear it anywhere else.

is there a direct link to the page so it could read with the photos inline?

Perhaps you could provide a link to some of *your* original works (of course they must all be beautiful and well made), and allow the experts here to critique *them/you*?

Um, Sally, this was a repost from the Etiquette Hell message board.

The links are to photos provided by *professional designers* who are selling wedding dre$$e$.

The one-liners were written by the original poster on the Etiquette Hell message board. (FYI, I would not ruin perfectly good fabric turning it into creations such as these.)

If you don't like what that person wrote, don't read it, and don't click on the links.

IMHO, most of her snarky comments were spot on, and the dress photos look like something one would create for a costume party. Check out the ones described as looking like a cake, or unironed, or goofy hemlines.

Regrettably, there is no page with the pics embedded, and no way to view them at a larger size that I know of. Too bad!

Hey, the reviews were opinions...nothing wrong with that. I must admit I liked some of the designer fashions; no one says we all have to like the same thing.

I do agree that at least a couple of the flower girl dresses were overdone. For several years I subscribed to Sew Beautiful magazine, mostly for its great technique articles. But a lot of the featured designs seemed to me to be primarily show pieces for the seamstress's abilities...'Look at what I created!' Hard for a little girl to shine through all that frou frou.

I love Etiquette Hell. Did you also look at the photos people submitted of the bridesmaid dresses they have had to wear located in the Bridesmaid Dress Incinerator. Just cracks me up!

Except for one thing--they have MY wedding dress pattern from 1970 as an "ugly" dress! It was pretty, for that time, and I'll defend it to the bitter end.

I liked the one described as looking like female genitalia! To me it looked like flower petals -- well I know that flowers can be considered plant genitalia, but no-one seems to bother about carrying actual flowers around.

What in the world is Etiquette Hell?

I admit that I quite like the majority of these dresses. Especially this one!

But I bet yours looked better on you than it did on their model! :)

The pattern picture for my wedding dress (Burda's copy of Princess Di's ghastly crumpled paper bag effort) looked like a meringue on wheels.

*MY* version had no silly frills, was made of soft silk rather than paper taffeta, didn't stick out like I'd shoved a tea cup up my skirts, and got lots of complements.

I still have that wedding dress. I wonder if it fits again yet...

Couldn't agree more. I'm sure when I was a girl I wanted to look older but I don't recall playing with make up at such a young age. My daughter is 8 and we went shopping for winter boots this afternoon (winter is coming in Australia!) with great trepidation.

Last year nearly every boot for little girls had heels with a minimum of 5cm (2 inches). I was appalled and was starting to feel like some morals crusader. After visiting a few shops last year and finding they all stocked the same, I asked who bought these monstrosities as I'd never seen a girl at my daughter's school wearing them. The reply was weekend dads, with mothers coming in to change them when the access visit finished. I stood my ground and said that it was either boots without heels or no boots - the shop had to find stock from the previous year so that we could buy something acceptable.

Luckily this year there were more styles with low heels so we didn't have the anticipated battle. It helped that the chosen pair has lights in the heel that flash when you walk. Very cool!

a site of submitted pieces from average folks who've endured breaches of the social graces (a new example comes to mind!!), many of which are related to weddings and "Bridezilla." Be sure to read the feature on the Titanic Wedding Disaster, which is all about a sewing gig, and quite hilarious. (Yours truly has several submissions in the wedding vendor section, and also one about a former ex-BF who tried to show me how to play billiards.)

Warning: it's fairly addictive. If you spend too much time checking it out for the next few weeks, don't be coming back here and ripping me a new one.

You know what? It isn't Etiquette Hell that has it! Now I can't remember which site has those ugly bridal and bridesmaid gown photos. Does anyone have a link to that site?

ARGH! Sending waves of sympathy: {{{{{{SYMPATHY}}}}} ;)

I really like Bootleg kids shoes. They come with enough of the fashion stuff to satisfy, but with sensible heels and width fittings! Not exactly cheap (about £32 a pair), but sturdy. James has them, and because I only take a UK 4 to 4.5 shoe size, I can wear them too! :)

Neat! PINK lights, perchance? But have you also seen the ones that have built in wheels? Not exactly roller boots, but almost! I overheard one mum telling her daughter: You'd better take good care of those - they cost £42 a foot!

You know, much as I like the duct tape gowns, I have to say I like this idea better:

was designed by a 17-18 YO A Level Design student as part of her exam work in school. I met her dad at Bluewater the other week, and these things are pretty neat (and beautifully made) as well as being a fun concept.

Nothing to do with duct tape, but as a student design, they're pretty good going! :) NAYY, and I don't own one - yet! But I'm saving up!
