'Shambles' is now a UFO

Shambles is my friend's golden lab (8yo) and the Quiltmaker paper pieced pattern was the perfect picture of her. I made it up this weekend in the hopes that I WILL finish it before I see my friend again - it is her birthday this month and I had planned to make something special for her this year since she has always helped to make my birthdays memorable. Pix can be seen in my shoebox album at

If the weather stays not-humid for a few more days, I just might get back to sewing/quilting. I have also uploaded other pix of more ufo's that have been "new-to-me" try-out designs in the same album including

2 hug quilts which are intended for the two sisters who recently underwent surgery for colon cancer (both have been given the 6month clear signal). jennellh (change the mail to news)

He's beautiful, Jen. Your friend will be thrilled to bits. The hug quilts for the sisters are lovely too. Pretty and bright to lift spirits and celebrate. You have some really pretty work in that file. I love the batik UFO. A glorious riot of colour. . In message , jennellh writes

I have the pattern of the puppy and want to find the pattern for the kitty from the magazine also.

Want to make a WH of the puppy for my sister and the kitty for me.

WHAT A QUILT SHOW. I spent quite a while in your webshots. Your Mctavishing is excellent. I'm into line dancing right now and hope to learn McTavishing next year.

Thanks for the eye candy.

I intended to look at the lab quilt, I really did, but as ever, I got distracted by the precious busy kitty QI pictures. It seems to me that you have a whole lot of cute going on there. Polly

Shambles is great but I want to know more about your McTavishing. Did you take a class from her? I want to do the 25" square piece in one of the latest magazines. I have some of her books but have not tried anything yet. You did a great job!

Thank you, Pat. I have only met Shambles (named for a certain Tudor street in York - my home town) once but I have a photo of her that is the exact same pose as the magazine pattern - the timing couldn't have been better.

I have some childhood photos of the sisters that I have scanned to incorporate them into the backings for their hug quilts - it will be fun to work on them and get them finished. Yvonne has been given the go-ahead for plane travel again but has decided not to make the flight over this year - this delay will give me the time I need to quilt.

Kate, I have 2 copies of the kitty magazine (one was a gift from someone who knows that I like quilting and kittens and the other was my own subscription issue) - let me know if you would like one or a scan of the pattern (I don't consider a scan of the pattern an infringement of copyright since 2 copies of the magazine have been paid for). jennellh

Polly, there is so much more than just cute going on here! You wouldn't believe the new tricks that the lit'divils have taught each other. I'm glad that the photos entertained you. jennellh

No classes - only dvd, tv and book learning in all aspects of quilting/ sewing. I realized that the quilting that I did on the Navan-Vars church quilt was my own version of McTavishing after it was completed (pre-dvd and book). The sampler was my play therapy during the hot/ humid days to stave off quilt withdrawal. I think that I will be doing more samplers (lots of black fabric available) to test out variegated threads which are my passion - I can't resist buying them. jennellh

Wow, Jannell! That's gorgeous! I'm really impressed with how lifelike it looks. :)

Thanks, Sandy. I only hope that I can keep the look when I quilt it. I have to say that it is hanging over the tv at them moment and the more I look at it, the more real it seems. I am thinking that I WILL have to make another copy for myself as well as the kitty one (if not more than one kitty - too many colours to choose from!). I also have to decide whether it will become a cushion or a wall panel.......jennellh
