Whew! glad THAT'S done!

I just finished *shudder* an alteration. Tall skinny DD picked up a beautiful little show jacket for a song...fit her perfectly except the sleeves were too short.

I added the five stones below the embroidery, so that the trim wouldn't end so far above the bottom of the sleeve:

with a new hem of only about 5/8", the challenge was to hem the pieced sleeve lining just long enough to allow for an ease fold, but not so long that it would peek out from underneath:

's the jacket:

tell my DDs they'd better be glad I love them...otherwise, I'd *never* do this kind of sewing. Yuck. Doreen in Alabama

Wow, gorgeous jacket and what an innovative solution for lengthening the sleeves. Nice! And, ain't it the truth about "the things we'll do for love...".

What is a "show jacket"? I'm guessing something to do with horses?

Lovely job! Wish I could send you all the folk that ask me to do alterations - my true 'hate' in the sewing world!

Very nice work Doreen!! I still don't love alterations either. But I have come to appreciate them for the steady source of income they've generated over the years. ;)

I do have to say though, if there's one garment I really loathe altering, it's a lined suit coat/jacket/etc. They are just so....fiddley. (technical term huh??)

You did a great job on the jacket! Will look gorgeous on your DD and in the ring. :)

Thanks, Beverly. And yes, you guess right. I should have mentioned horses.

It is a beautifully made garment, but you know, I just noticed something for the first time, from looking at the picture...the mirror image trim on either side of the front zipper is missing a stone on one side! It's not that one has come off, it just never was set there. Prolly wouldn't be worth the trouble to try to sew one on and hide all the stitching and knots, with everything closed up tighter than a drum. Hmmm...

Sharon,

I do so admire you and others who tackle alterations on a steady basis. Whatever you're paid, it isn't enough.

The fiddley lining, with its fine threads from ravelly edges, would make a parson cuss! (and I'm no parson).

Thanks for the compliment.
